About the Job

Duties and Responsibilities:

Dr. Piper Meyer-Kalos and Dr. Melissa Dalhoe are seeking an individual with experience related to a serious mental illness, such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, to serve as a Co-Host for a Lived Experience Advisory Panel (LEAP) for early serious mental illness. This panel will provide community input on a variety of clinical policies for early intervention clinics across the state of Minnesota, as well as research initiatives. This will include reviewing grant proposals, IRB protocols and supporting documents, and ongoing community feedback and oversight of these initiatives. The ultimate goal is to have community engagement from development to deployment to dissemination for research and certain changes to clinical operations, so we can know what is most important to the individuals who are most impacted by these decisions.

The LEAP Co-Host will be a co-applicant on funding applications, which involves identifying and applying for grant funding to establish the LEAP. This will include several preparatory activities, including literature and resource review, writing sections of grants, assisting in budget development, and hosting Focus Groups to inform applications.

After initial funding is awarded, the LEAP Co-Host will help to recruit members for LEAP, including determining qualifications and conducting interviews. Additionally, the Co-Host will help to establish a Charter with the LEAP members to determine the goals of the group, the responsibilities of members, power sharing agreements, and additional negotiations to ensure a collaborative and mutually beneficial partnership. The Co-Host will develop resources for the LEAP, including training materials for LEAP members and collaborators, and forms and frameworks for requesting LEAP input on materials.

Once the LEAP is established, the Co-Host will co-lead ongoing meetings. The Co-Host will act as a liaison between research and clinical collaborators and the LEAP members, and communicate feedback to both parties. The Co-Host will be responsible for maintaining relationships with LEAP members, which includes regular review of the Charter.

The Co-Host may also help facilitate pathways for LEAP members to present their own research or clinical initiatives to the relevant parties. This role may continue to identify and apply for additional grants to sustain ongoing funding, or to provide funding for LEAP initiatives. Additionally, the Co-Host will facilitate dissemination of clinical and research outcomes via further collaboration with the LEAP, through supporting co-authorship and co-presenter opportunities, and potentially facilitating community dissemination events.

Establish agendas and maintain meeting minutes, as appropriate and according to the Charter.

-Assist in developing template materials to guide researchers in clinicians in applying for LEAP or Focus Group feedback, such as how to present research aims in a way that is more easily understood by people who are not familiar with technical terms or complex scientific methods.
-Act as a liaison between the LEAP and Focus Groups and the clinicians and researchers who are seeking community input. Report feedback from the LEAP and Focus Groups back to the interested parties with specific points of action when feasible.
