Summary:

Presbyterian is seeking a motivated and patient-centered Physical Therapist Resident to join our outpatient rehabilitation team. This role is ideal for new graduates or early-career clinicians who are eager to advance their skills through structured mentorship while delivering exceptional care to a diverse patient population.

As a resident, you will participate in a comprehensive clinical education program designed to enhance your competency in evidence-based practice, differential diagnosis, and advanced manual therapy. You'll treat patients under the guidance of experienced residency faculty while developing the confidence and independence needed to excel as an outpatient clinician.

Responsibilities:

  • Requires detailed knowledge of physical therapy in terms of what and how work is to be done as well as why it is done, this level includes interpretation of data.
  • Professional development- Enhance professional growth and development through; participation in; The University of New Mexico Orthopaedic Physical Therapy Residency Program. Professional development activities will include participation in didactic lectures, independent study, psychomotor labs, research activities, and working in conjunction with the UNM PT Orthopaedic Residency peer cohort to assist in teaching psychomotor aspects of Orthopaedic physical therapy to entry level physical therapy students on the North UNM campus. Participate in planned and organized patient care mentorship with a qualified PT mentor for 4 hours/wk.
  • Basic understanding of the rules and regulations of the specific setting
  • Evaluates and treats patients regarding the application of a wide variety of therapeutic interventions for rehabilitation of physical function and developmental disorders.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of patients served
  • Oversees and ensures a comprehensive rehabilitation program designed to meet the physical, psychosocial, and immediate environmental well-being of the patient
  • Promotes patient/caregiver self-determination by optimizing outside resource utilization to achieve the highest level of independence.
  • Coordinates and communicates with various disciplines or services involved in patient care.
  • Coordinates efforts toward discharge goals established at initial evaluation and during episode of care.
  • Is a patient advocate.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Settings may include inpatient, outpatient, long-term care, community-based care and home health care

Qualifications:

  • New Mexico Physical Therapist license required.
  • Bachelor Degree in Physical Therapy. Doctorate of Physical Therapy preferred.
  • Must be enrolled in the UNM Orthopaedic Physical Therapy Residency Program.
  • BLS required.
  • Less than one year of experience in physical therapy.
