Manufacturing Engineer - Torque

Key Responsibilities:



  • Lead torque and fastening control systems, strategy, tooling and standards to support future engineering projects at Stoughton Trailers manufacturing facilities.
  • Lead project-specific fastening project and strategy during development phase of the project through sourcing and purchase order release.
  • Execute overall fastening strategy, seeing it through to delivery and implementation.
  • Define, maintain, and update fastening tooling standards.
  • Assist in the development of and ensure full alignment on project costing.
  • Responsible for DC Torque Tool issues/troubleshooting, Tool programming, Tool repairs, Tooling installation, Scanner programming, New tooling runoff/validation.
  • Responsible for the procurement, validation, and maintenance of DC electric tooling Testing Equipment, and other hand-held fastening systems to support Stoughton Trailers Critical Road Safey CRS) program.
  • Develop strategies for acceptable process capability of torque and fastening operations using DC electric tools and equipment.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, engineering, quality, supply chain, and maintenance teams to optimize tool performance and improve process capability.
  • Support the procurement of new Fastening equipment/tooling and perform validation (run-off) at vendor site as required.
  • Perform equipment and scanner programming and basic troubleshooting.
  • Work collaboratively with IT on CRS interactive portal and its integration with DC Tools and their software.
  • Perform audits, calibration management, and data analysis to ensure accuracy and consistency in fastening and assembly operations.
  • Lead investigations and root cause analysis related to DC tooling and fastening equipment performance issues.
  • Monitor and analyze production data to identify trends, deviations, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Support new product launches by validating torque specifications, fastening strategies, and quality plans.
  • Maintain documentation related to torque specifications, tool parameters, quality inspection records, and audit results.
  • Provide training and guidance to production and maintenance staff on proper torque techniques and tool usage.
  • Ensure compliance with Stoughton Trailers Critical Road Safety program.



Required Qualifications:



  • BS in Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience in an engineering role within a manufacturing environment.
  • 5+ years experience with fastening equipment, assembly tooling, or joint design strategy, experience supporting in-plant tooling and fastening implementation or troubleshooting
  • Hands-on experience with DC electric tools (e.g., Atlas Copco, Cleco, Stanley, Bosch, etc.) and torque systems.
  • Experience working with engineering in upfront development, torque strategy, definition, design reviews, supplier development.
  • Experience managing projects across multiple manufacturing plants/teams
  • Strong interpersonal skills, presentation and communication ability
  • Fastening foundational experience with the ability to both learn and teach
  • Ability to travel and interface with Manufacturing plants
  • Experience in ABS Testing Systems preferred.
  • Knowledge of torque theory, fastening techniques, and tool calibration principles.
  • Experience in problem solving and root cause analysis.
  • Statistical Process Control (SPC) experience desired.
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis software (e.g., Minitab) and quality management systems (QMS).
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience in automotive, aerospace, or other precision assembly environments.
  • Knowledge of PLCs or automation related to tool control and data collection.


Working Conditions:



  • Split time between office and manufacturing floor environments
  • Occasional travel may be required to support remote plants, suppliers or customers.
