Job Description

The Associate Director of Patient Accounting is responsible for managing the daily operations which includes oversight of patient billing, follow up, payment processing/posting, pre-authorization, denials management, underpayment recoveries, call center and collections/bad debt management. This role will develop best practices and ensure departments standards are being met and develops policies and procedures to improve services and operations. Coordinates patient accounting hospital procedures with activities of all revenue departments. Works with Information Technology to enhance and implement new automated processes within the patient accounting system. Monitors, trains and evaluates the performance of staff members.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business management or hospital administration or the equivalent through a combination of education and work experience.
  • Five years of experience in a hospital, including at least three years supervision above the first supervisory level.
  • Awareness of trends in utilization review and governmental third party payer reimbursement policies, standards and procedures.
  • Knowledge of standard problem solving, management information systems and governmental and third party payer billing information requirements. Written and verbal communication skills to maintain effective working relationships with patients and the hospital staff.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals of all age groups.
  • Knowledge and ability to create Excel and Word documents, as well as skills in using such documents to analyze patient accounting data and to manage projects.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • History working with Cerner clinical and financial systems.
  • History working in a safety-net organization.
