The Role

As a Coding Specialist 2, you will independently review and analyze complex PM&R clinical documentation to ensure accurate code assignment, documentation integrity, and compliance with coding regulations and payer requirements. Your work will directly support quality outcomes, revenue integrity, and provider education across a specialized rehabilitation medicine practice.

In an average day, you will:

• Perform detailed coding quality reviews and audits for Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation services.
• Apply advanced knowledge of CPT, ICD-10-CM, Evaluation & Management (E/M) coding, modifier usage, NCCI edits, medical necessity requirements, and payer-specific guidelines.
• Review and validate documentation for a variety of PM&R procedures and services, including:
  • Injections and aspirations
  • Trigger point injections
  • Botulinum toxin procedures
  • EMG/NCS services
  • Epidural and facet procedures
  • Interventional pain management services
• Ensure accurate linkage of diagnoses to procedures and support diagnosis specificity requirements.
• Identify documentation inconsistencies, omissions, and opportunities for provider clarification.
• Facilitate compliant provider queries when additional information is needed.
• Collaborate with coding, compliance, operational, and clinical teams to support continuous quality improvement.
• Serve as a subject matter expert in PM&R coding practices, documentation standards, and regulatory compliance.

This role is particularly well suited for professionals with at least three years of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation coding experience who enjoy working independently while making a meaningful contribution to organizational success.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: High School Diploma or GED
Experience: 2+ years of clinical coding experience required
Licensure: Certified Professional Coder (CPC) required.

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally requires traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
