Scope of Position

As a Product Engineer, you will be a technical expert for Watts Process and Drainage Piping product category and lead the new product development activities required to deliver on the strategic product roadmap, as well as contribute to the technical vision for the product category. You will leverage a deep understanding of customer needs and product applications to launch innovative products that will ensure Watts' position as a market leader. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing new products, across a variety of applications and industries. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including product management, sourcing, production, and quality assurance to deliver high-quality products and solutions. It requires practical technical judgment, decision-making using standard procedures and sophisticated methods and adaptability to evolving business demands.

This position reports to the General Manager, Drains. This role is Hybrid and based out of North Andover, MA, with travel expected to St. Paul, North Carolina.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead assigned technical deliverables for Stage-Gate NPD projects, with oversight from senior engineering leadership.
  • Collect and analyze customer feedback through VOC interviews, customer visits, tradeshows, conferences, and training seminars; translate insights into actionable design improvements.
  • Investigate new technologies and contribute to product architecture development, specifications, and technical recommendations.
  • Own portions of the design process from requirements definition through testing, validation, and final documentation.
  • Develop and maintain work breakdown structures for assigned projects; identify risks and escalate issues as needed.
  • Collaborate with Product Management to align technical solutions with product requirements and established timelines.
  • Manage workload across multiple projects, ensuring assigned deliverables are completed on schedule and within scope.
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly within cross-functional teams to support decision-making and project alignment.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate project documentation; contribute to technical reports, validation summaries, and product launch materials.
  • Develop prototypes and iterate designs to support new product ideas and product enhancements.
  • Troubleshoot design-related challenges and support the resolution of cross-functional technical questions.
  • Stay current with industry trends, standards, and emerging technologies to support continuous product improvement.
  • Contribute to a collaborative team environment through knowledge sharing and proactive communication.
  • Maintain professional and technical expertise through ongoing training and development.
  • Perform additional projects and responsibilities as assigned by Company management.
  • Travel Requirements: 20%

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field; master's degree a plus.
  • 5+ years of experience in product engineering, sustaining engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong foundation in fluid mechanics, materials science, and mechanical engineering principles.
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards such as IPC, UPC, NPCC, ASME B31.3, ISO 10931, ASTM 1412
  • Proficient understanding of Design for Manufacturability (DFM), and Design for Assembly (DFA) approaches.
  • Highly skilled in the use of 3D CAD solid modeling software, Auto Desk Inventor preferred.
  • Practical knowledge in material properties, fluid mechanics, and analysis experience such as, FEA, Simulation, Design of Experiments.
  • Ability to demonstrate decision making, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Work effectively in a collaborative team environment with a focus on advancing technical proficiency.
  • Results-oriented, ability to work independently on multiple projects with periodic supervision and guidance.
  • Demonstrate effective verbal and written communications, including good technical writing and presentation skills.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft 365 Applications.
  • Technical Engineering Certification that encompasses competence and theoretical knowledge equivalent to a standard curriculum of an accredited BS degree in Engineering.
  • Understanding of and adherence to applicable laws, codes, policies, regulations, and safety practices and procedures, as applicable.
  • Must successfully establish employment eligibility and satisfactorily complete background checks and required pre-employment testing as a condition of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous engineering experience in a manufacturing environment a plus.
  • Previous experience in a customer-facing role is a plus (i.e. technical sales, customer service, field service)

Working Conditions

While performing the job duties, you will be working in an office environment. You will be required to work in the office at the North Andover location three days per week (Monday - Wednesday) and can work remotely two days per week (Thursday and Friday).

Physical Requirements: Specific physical abilities required for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Ability to remain seated at a desk or workstation for extended periods.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks like typing on a keyboard or using a mouse for extended periods.
  • Ability to physically move around the office, organize or transport files, packages, or other office-related materials.
  • Ability to read documents, use a computer, and perform data entry tasks.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with management and coworkers, particularly in meetings or phone calls.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment such as computers, printers, phones, and copiers.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry light objects, such as office supplies, documents, or small equipment.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment, which may include, but is not limited to, safety shoes, hearing protection, and safety glasses.

Pay Range

The expected salary range for this position is $110,000-$122,000 yearly. Actual compensation will be dependent upon individual skills, experience, qualifications, and applicable law.
