Job Description

Primary Function: Responsible to ensure product is dimensionally acceptable per customer drawings, specifications and instructions.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Visually inspects parts.
  • Manually measures parts with calipers, micrometers, gages, and comparitors.
  • Programming and updating CMM layout inspection plans for castings in Calypso software using Zeiss CMMs.
  • Manually measures or compares with specialty built gages and/or inspection fixtures for variable and attribute data.
  • Measures parts with the Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM), both DCC and manual.
  • Programs Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM).
  • Interprets drawings, sketches and blueprints.
  • Prepares reports of dimensional data. Up to and including AS9102 forms.
  • Performs calibration of calipers, micrometers, gages, etc.
  • Manages the gage management system software.
  • Support calibrations team when necessary.

    Minimum Job Requirements:

    • Able to work in a production environment.
    • Able to read and comprehend English.
    • Able to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Able to apply concepts of fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical solutions.
    • Able to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and e-mails regarding parts.
    • Able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. frequently.
    • Able to communicate effectively with co-workers.
    • Near vision requirement is Jaeger J1 in on eye, at no less than 12 inches; or equivalent, or Jaeger J2 in one eye, at no less than 16 inches. Corrected or uncorrected. Color perception required each year; Standard used: Keystone VS11 (Red-Green and Blue Violet) or Ishihara.
    • Able to use Microsoft Office applications.
    • Complies with company and departmental policies and procedures, including company's attendance policy.

    Desired Competencies:

    • Certified Quality Inspector Certification
    • 3-4 years of training or experience.
    • High School Diploma or G.E.D.

    Normal Working Conditions

    • Works under indirect supervision following established practices and clear-cut policies in the performance of the majority of duties. Make decisions when general instructions, established methods and clearly defined precedents indicate action to be taken, but refers unusual problems to superiors.
    • Continuous work required near moving mechanical parts.
    • Occasional work required in areas with fumes and/or airborne particles and in areas with loud noise.
    • Continuous sitting required.
