Job Description

SUMMARY

The Senior Coordinator of Student Employment plays a pivotal role in shaping a consistent, supportive, and development-focused employment experience for student workers across the university. This position advances institutional goals by ensuring student employment is accessible, fostering meaningful and engaging on-campus work opportunities, and strengthening alignment across the full student employee life cycle-from recruitment and onboarding through development and recognition. The Senior Coordinator collaborates broadly with campus partners, supports both supervisors and students, and leads initiatives designed to enhance the quality, consistency, and impact of student employment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Strategic Leadership & Coordination

  • Coordinate student employment initiatives within the Career Center team.
  • Develop strategies to identify and address barriers to student employment participation.
  • Create and maintain strong partnerships with campus departments to elevate student employment and enhance the student experience.
  • Develop, refine, and implement policies and processes that improve all phases of the student employee life cycle.
  • Assess program effectiveness through data tracking and collecting stakeholder input to continuously make improvements.

Recruitment & Outreach

  • Coordinate with departments to develop new positions, craft job descriptions, and post opportunities while following federal, state, and Mizzou standards.
  • Promote the benefits of student employment to prospective and current students through presentations, events, and campus communications.
  • Provide individualized consultations to students seeking guidance on campus employment.
  • Coordinate recruitment activities, including events during Summer Welcome and part-time job fairs, connecting students with campus employers.
  • Collaborate closely with the Work-Study Employment Coordinator on overlapping processes, communication, training sessions, and events.

Student & Supervisor Support

  • Serve as a primary resource for resolving concerns throughout the student employee life cycle, including onboarding challenges, job search coaching, and resolving on the job issues.
  • Guide students through required hiring and onboarding processes, including forms and New Employee Registration.
  • Communicate clearly and consistently with students, families, on-campus employers, and campus offices.
  • Support institutional compliance, risk management, and HR related protocols.

Training, Development, & Performance

  • Identify training needs for student employees and supervisors based on role specific responsibilities.
  • Provide relevant training for student employees, including training on career preparation, transferable skills, and career readiness.
  • Coordinate professional development programs for supervisors of student employees.
  • Consult with students experiencing workplace concerns and make referrals when appropriate.
  • Promote recognition programs and appreciation efforts to cultivate a positive employment culture.

Collaboration & Campus Partnerships

  • Maintain regular collaboration with Student Financial Aid, Human Resources, Shared Services, and other key partners.
  • Serve as a campus-wide resource on student employment regulations, processes, and best practices.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Engage in ongoing professional development to maintain current knowledge of federal regulations, compliance, and student employment best practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission of the Career Center and university.
Shift

M-F 8am - 5pm, some weekend and evening work

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant field (higher education, student personnel, human resources, or a related area), or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.
  • Three years' experience in higher education, career services, student supervision, recruitment, human resources, financial aid, or related area.
  • Strong team player with ability to collaborate with, support, and manage expectations of students and supervisors.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain processes and policies clearly to varied audiences.
  • Experience delivering training or facilitating workshops for students, supervisors, or staff.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively find solutions.
  • Experience planning and executing small and large events.
  • Demonstrated strength in organization, attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Comfort with technology, including Microsoft Office tools and online employment platforms.
Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $52,915.20 - $74,484.80 annually

Grade: GGS-010
