Key Responsibilities

This position is responsible for designing, planning and leading cross-functional process improvement initiatives within Global Industrial that constantly strive to eliminate waste, improve customer satisfaction, and increase market share.
Responsibilities include the direct application of Lean tools and continuous improvement methodologies across all functions within Global Industrial's distribution center network through observation, analysis, and conclusive recommendations. The Industrial Engineer will work with multiple, inter-department leaders to achieve and exceed the company's Accelerated Customer Experience (ACE) strategic goals by focusing and driving Labor Management, Quality of Service, Elimination of Waste, Lead-Time Reduction and Cost Reduction. This position has a direct responsibility in defining and executing strategies that deliver significant, quantifiable process improvement and financial benefit.
Responsibilities:
* Partner with functional leaders and DC management staff to assess current processes, identify process improvement opportunities, and establish best practices.
* Develop tools and solutions including system software enhancements, new/improved metrics reporting, facility design, workflow management, material handling, and labor planning.
* Assist the Operations Excellence team with the development, maintenance, and standardized execution of all Work Instructions (WI), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and training documentation for the DC network.
* Provide functional support for the Warehouse Management System suite, including Labor Management, Slotting, Pick path sequencing, XYZ mapping, Reporting and other applicable system configuration needs.
* Conduct and evaluate time studies performed by self/engineers/consultants in order to validate and approve engineered standard workbooks.
* Act as a subject matter expert and champion of industry trends in cultivating an environment that encourages problem solving, critical thinking, and innovation.
* Lead LMS activities including the establishment and maintenance of engineered labor standards based on best practices, training leaders and associates, coaching/mentoring, process mapping, value stream mapping, data analysis, performance incentive programs, and sustainability.
* Draft and design layouts for processes, equipment, materials, and workspace to illustrate ergonomics and maximum efficiency using drafting and computer applications.
* Support capital and operating budgets providing analysis and input as appropriate.
* Perform other duties as assigned.

Competencies and skills

* Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering (IE), IE Technology, or relatable accredited engineering degree
* Minimum 3 years' experience working in a warehousing and distribution environment
* Exceptional analytical skills with strong attention to detail
* Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making skills with the ability to drive results
* Knowledge of Lean principles and tools: cycle-time reduction, line balancing, kaizens, set-up reduction, Kanban implementation, material handling techniques, and just-in-time delivery
* Experience in implementing Lean in a distribution environment
* Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills with the ability to comfortably deliver presentations to the appropriate audience spanning executives, managers and/or associates
* Strong interpersonal, communication, and project management skills
* Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple responsibilities required
* Able to bring teams together using strong influencing skills to execute projects and achieve project milestones
* Advanced knowledge of both Warehouse and Labor Management Systems
* High level of proficiency in MS Excel
* Intermediate proficiency with AutoCAD, MS Project & MS Visio
* Proficiency using MS Word and PowerPoint
* Experience with predetermined motion time systems (MOST or MTM) a plus
* 25-40% travel required and possibly more during project rollouts
