Description

The Senior Director Head of Learning Operations will optimize operations streamlining engagement, scoping, budgeting, resource management, and reporting through technology and standardized workflows. This role leads to the design and rollout of repeatable processes, consolidates routine tasks into single effective operations vertically, and shares leading practices across internal teams, contractors and off-shore resources to drive efficiency and scalability.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee day to day commercial operations across LS, ensuring accurate forecasting, budget management, margin tracking, and resource allocation to meet revenue and utilization targets.
  • Analyze end to end commercial workflows across SIM, Medical & Commercial Writing, BD, Creative, Production, and Tech/AI to identify bottlenecks, reduce cost to serve, and improve throughput and commercial scalability.
  • Centralize commercial intake, reporting, and vendor management to streamline cross COE operations, accelerate project activation, and reduce operational friction across the commercial lifecycle.
  • Monitor utilization, project financials, and margin performance, adjusting staffing and budgets in real time to protect revenue, improve profitability, and ensure commercial delivery excellence.
  • Lead modernization and integration of LS and MODAL reporting systems to create unified commercial dashboards, improve forecasting accuracy, and enable real time business decision making.
  • Define and report on commercial performance metrics-including scalability opportunities, operational efficiency, client value delivery, and program ROI-using data driven insights and executive level dashboards.
  • Develop and coach COE Leads on commercial analytics, operational KPIs, and monthly business performance reviews, establishing clear goals tied to revenue, margin, and operational efficiency.
  • Lead the design and governance of commercial SOPs, best practices, and standardized templates across LS to ensure consistent delivery, operational scalability, and commercial compliance.
  • Lead commercial performance reporting and operational reviews with Deployment Solutions leadership, ensuring clear visibility into revenue trends, delivery performance, risks, and cross COE alignment.
Key Metrics to Monitor
  • Project financials-budget adherence, cost variances, and profitability-to ensure on time, on budget delivery globally for LS and MODAL
  • Resource utilization and staffing efficiency including FTE, contractor and off-shore utilization rates and capacity metrics across LS Globally/MODAL teams
  • Operational cycle times, approval durations, and quality indicators (rework rates, client satisfaction, compliance outcomes) to gauge process efficiency and effectiveness
  • Scalability opportunity analysis for LS and MODAL globally
Additional Responsibilities
  • Business Analytics: Leads ongoing business analytics discussions with COE Leads while standardizing commercial governance across COEs
  • Financial & Commercial Operations: Revenue forecasting, budget tracking, manage billing, and drive profitability with variance and change order controls
  • Reporting & Analytics: Centralize dashboards and executive reporting to monitor KPIs and inform data driven decisions
  • Process, Governance & Quality: Define and enforce SOPs, SLAs, RACIs, and quality checkpoints to streamline handoffs and ensure compliance
  • Systems, Tools & Data: Administer core tools, improve data hygiene, and automate workflows to reduce manual effort and duplication
  • Vendor & Contractor Management: Source, onboard, and manage external talent with rate cards and performance metrics to reduce delivery risk
  • Continuous Improvement: Run post mortems, track corrective actions, and share best practices to continually improve operational performance
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred in Business Administration, Health Sciences, Operations Management, or related field
  • Up to 10-15% travel required for leadership meetings, operational reviews, and key stakeholder engagements
  • 12 - 15 years of progressive experience in operations, learning, analytics, or commercial leadership within clinical research, life sciences, healthcare, or a regulated professional services environment

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $X to $Y. The base salary range represents the anticipated low and high of the Syneos Health range for this position. Actual salary will vary based on various factors such as the candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role. In addition, some positions may include eligibility to earn commissions/bonus based on company and / or individual performance.
