SHOP FABRICATOR

The Shop Fabricator at Six Side Supply is responsible for laying out, fitting, fabricating, and assembling custom miscellaneous metal components in a high-mix, low-volume fabrication environment. This role requires strong blueprint interpretation, hands-on fabrication skill, and the ability to problem-solve unique conditions across a wide variety of one-off and short-run projects.

This is not a production role. The Shop Fabricator owns the work from raw material through finished assembly, ensuring accuracy, quality, and readiness for installation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:



  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in job shop or similar environment
  • Familiarity with CNC plasma cutting and other metal cutting processes
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and technical drawings
  • Experience with fitting and assembling metal components
  • Familiarity with operating grinders, torches, saws, brakes, shears, and other fabrication tools
  • Strong understanding of welding and fabrication safety procedures and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements


Preferred:



  • Experience with miscellaneous metals (stairs, railings, platforms)
  • Familiarity with CNC plasma cutting or similar processes
  • OSHA 10 certification
  • Familiarity in MIG welding processes
  • Knowledge of different metal materials and their welding and fabrication requirements


Skills:



  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Familiarity with operating grinders, torches, saws, brakes, shears, and other fabrication tools
  • Strong understanding of welding and fabrication safety procedures and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

CORE RESPONSIBLITIES:

Fabrication and Equipment Operation



  • Operate fabrication equipment efficiently, including saws, drills, ironworkers, brakes, shears, grinders, and CNC plasma (as applicable)
  • Select proper tools and equipment to maximize throughput and accuracy
  • Cut, shape, and prepare materials for assembly in alignment with production flow
  • Maintain consistent productivity while meeting quality standards
  • Perform preemptive/basic maintenance on equipment (cleaning, inspection, minor adjustments) to reduce downtime
  • Monitor equipment performance and identify/report issues early to prevent disruption to production
  • Ensure equipment and workstations are organized, ready, and optimized for immediate use


Layout, Sequencing & Flow Execution



  • Read and interpret shop drawings, blueprints, and specifications to understand full assembly scope
  • Plan and execute fabrication work in a way that supports efficient shop flow and minimizes bottlenecks
  • Determine optimal fabrication sequence based on material, equipment availability, and downstream operations
  • Execute work to support continuous flow, not batch-and-wait production
  • Minimize handling, movement, and rework through proper planning and layout
  • Stage materials and assemblies to support next operation readiness
  • Actively contribute to process improvements and workflow optimization


General & Team Support



  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work area aligned with 5S and Lean principles
  • Assist with material staging, movement, and loading to support overall shop flow
  • Attend shop meetings and training as required
  • Other duties as assigned


OFFICE AND TRAVEL:

Works in White Bear Lake miscellaneous shop.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires prolonged periods of standing near equipment. The employee must be able to lift to 100 pounds as needed, demonstrate manual dexterity for working with controls, clamps, and tools. Ability to bend, twist, and move materials frequently. Tolerance for noisy and dusty environments with PPE

The role also requires occasional visits to construction sites, where the employee may be exposed to dust, dirt, uneven surfaces, outdoor weather conditions, and extreme temperatures.

In alignment with our commitment to pay transparency, the base salary range for this position is $80,000-95,000, excluding fringe benefits or potential bonuses. If you join McGough, your final base salary will be determined by several factors, including geography, location, skills, education, and experience. Furthermore, we place significant value on pay equity among our current team members as part of any final job offer.

Please note that the range provided above reflects the hiring range for this role. Hiring near the top end of this range would be atypical, as we aim to allow room for future salary growth.
