Job Description
Primary Purpose
Under general supervision, conducts and schedules market energy transactions in real-time to optimize profitability of Sempra Gas & Power Marketing, LLC (SGPM) generation portfolio or proprietary trading books in various markets. Monitors power plant operations and market conditions and responds to contingencies.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Works as part of the team to manage and optimize SGPM's portfolio based on unit commitment plans, risk management principles, and factors not included in the modeling (e.g., changes in price, market depth, plant availability, weather, etc.) on a real-time basis.
- Executes real-time transactions (by electronic power exchange, proprietary software, telephone, brokers, etc.) for physical and financial energy products in CAISO, SPP, ERCOT, MISO and the PNW
- Inputs each transaction into an electronic deal capture system.
- Monitors real-time schedule adjustments and coordinates with market participants to account for deviations.
- Coordinates with the day-ahead staff as needed to resolve RT schedule issues, adjustments, etc.
- Updates the Fuel Supply Coordinator as needed for changes in expected fuel requirements.
- Supports the Day-Ahead electricity trading/scheduling function and gas trading/scheduling function as needed
- Participates in SGPM's compliance program. Responsible for operating the Real-Time Desk in a manner that ensures compliance with all appropriate NERC reliability standards and SGPM procedures.
- Monitors and schedules power transaction with control area operators. Monitor NERC e-Tags for accuracy and adjustments.
- Provide power schedule updates and operational guidance to SGPM staff. Monitors control area operations and responds to operating contingencies.
- Analyze market conditions and status of the SGPM portfolio and prepare ad hoc reports as needed.
- Work a rotating shift schedule to cover 24x7 operations.
- Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).

- Typically requires a 4 year degree in a relevant field, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
Experience
- Typically requires 5 years of related experience.

- Deal Structuring - Prioritizing the objectives of a merger or acquisition and ensuring that the top-priority objectives of all parties involved are satisfied, along with considering the weight of risk each party must bear.
- Energy Market Analysis - Examination and evaluation of national and international regulated markets that deal specifically with the trade and supply of energy.
- Energy Trading Strategy - The strategic approach taken to trading in energy market in order to take advantage of fluctuations in price and volume when buying and selling energy commodities.
- Energy Transaction Management - Managing the purchase or sale of a specified quantity of energy at a known transaction point or through an organized market.
- Pricing Structures - Defines the pricing setup for products or services, including the core price points plus discounts, offers, and strategy.
- Regulatory Compliance - Ensuring an organization's adherence to laws, regulations, guidelines and specifications relevant to its business processes.
- Risk Management - Identifies, evaluates and manages risks by developing and implementing risk management strategies, frameworks, policies, procedures and practices.
- Scenario Planning - Scenario planning focuses on an outlook for the future. It is a method with which organizations can form an idea of possible future scenarios and how these may affect their strategic objectives.
- Trading Position Management - Management of exposure to risk when trading by aligning positions within intended trading strategies and risk parameters.
Work Schedule
HYBRID: Work a combination of onsite and remote days each week, typically 4 days per week onsite.

$129,500.00 - $204,500.00 / year
