The Restoration Technical Project Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and managing the technical execution of ecological restoration projects from concept through completion. This role serves as a central liaison between technical staff, field teams, clients, regulators, and subcontractors to ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget. The position combines restoration expertise with strong project management skills to guide multidisciplinary teams, develop work plans and schedules, oversee restoration activities such as site assessments, habitat enhancement, invasive species management, revegetation, and monitoring, and ensure compliance with environmental regulations and permit requirements.
In addition, the Restoration Technical Project Manager oversees project budgets, tracks expenditures, and maintains clear communication with clients and stakeholders regarding project progress and challenges. The ideal candidate champions project goals, fosters collaboration among team members, and ensures restoration outcomes align with ecological best practices, regulatory standards, and client expectations while maintaining efficiency and accountability throughout the project lifecycle. This includes active participation in field activities, construction meetings and review of all project deliverables to ensure they are meeting project objectives.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Champion Project Goals and Ensure Objectives Are Met * Lead project teams in achieving defined project goals, deliverables, and timelines. * Maintain overall ownership and accountability for project outcomes, ensuring successful delivery from initiation through completion. * Monitor project progress and performance, adjusting plans and resources as needed to ensure project objectives are met.
Client Communication * Maintain strong client relationships through clear, proactive communication and responsiveness. * Provide regular project updates and check-ins with clients to ensure alignment on progress, schedule, and expectations. * Lead client meetings to present project status, discuss technical considerations, and address questions or concerns.
Technical Design Capabilities (Conceptualize and Quantify) * Create foundational design concepts to guide the multidisciplinary team to meet project objectives. * Develop conceptual earthwork, materials and construction quantity estimates using basic AutoCAD and Microsoft Excel skills. * Collaborate with a multidisciplinary design team and technical teams to refine concepts and ensure technical feasibility.
Own and Manage All Aspects of Project Workflow * Oversee the entire project workflow, from planning and scheduling through implementation, completion, and final delivery. * Coordinate activities among internal teams, clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies. * Support planning and implementation of technical project components in collaboration with technical group leads, including but not limited to project design, construction oversight, vegetation management, and monitoring/assessment activities.
Prepare Section 404/401 Permit Applications * Prepare and review Section 404 and Section 401 permit applications and supporting documentation, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. * Coordinate with regulatory agencies to secure necessary permits for project activities.
Perform Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) for Project Deliverables * Conduct QA/QC reviews of all project deliverables. * Ensure that all project outputs meet company standards, regulatory requirements, and client expectations.
Review and Approve Monthly Billing * Review monthly billing statements for accuracy, completeness, and alignment with project scope and budget. * Approve invoices and ensure timely payment from clients.
Manage Project Budgets * Develop and manage project budgets to ensure financial performance and cost control. * Track project expenditures and adjust forecasts as needed to maintain budget alignment.
Create and Review Costing * Develop detailed cost estimates for project proposals and active projects. * Review and update cost estimates to reflect changes in project scope, schedule, or material requirements.
Proposal Development * Contribute to the development of project proposals, including scope, schedule, and budget components.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications: * Education: Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Natural Resources, or a related field; OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience (typically 4 additional years of directly related experience may substitute for a bachelor's degree). * Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental restoration or related project management.
Preferred Qualifications: * Experience: o Professional certifications such as PMP (Project Management Professional) o Familiarity with GIS or AutoCAD (preferably) and other project management tools. o Previous experience in proposal writing and business development. o Strong technical writing skills. o Strong knowledge of Section 404/401 permitting processes. o Experience in project budgeting, costing, and financial management. o Proven ability to lead project teams and manage complex workflows.
Desired Skills * Knowledge of stream morphology, wetland ecology, restoration construction, and/or ecological restoration * Excellent leadership and team management skills. * Strong organizational and time management abilities. * Effective communication and interpersonal skills. * Proficiency in problem-solving and decision-making. * Attention to detail and ability to work independently. * Strong analytical skills, particularly in budgeting and costing.
The work environment will be a mix of in-office and remote work.
This position is a remote hybrid role, meaning employees will work remotely but may be required to come into the Stow, Ohio office to retrieve their company vehicle each day or on an as needed basis for training.
Standard office equipment will be provided to enable you to work in the office or at home. The home working environment must be one that facilitates productive and efficient work. Uninterrupted home-based internet is necessary in your home to attend and host video calls, along with a minimum bandwidth speed of 20 mbps. If you do not have an in home office space or cannot meet the internet needs, an office space will be provided for you in the company's Stow, Ohio office.
