This is a Transportation and Mobile Equipment Operations Manager for an independent Rebar mill, Fabricator and Scrap Company. This role has 8-10 direct reports, consisting of mobile mechanics and CDL drivers. This position manages maintenance and operators to maximize equipment availability, safety and productivity while controlling costs and meeting customer delivery schedules. This role manages load logistics/planning, dispatching and coordination with rebar and scrap leadership as well as the maintenance program of 8 flatbed tractor trailers, 3 roll off trucks, several forklifts, cranes and other mobile equipment. Responsibility includes equipment lifecycle management, regulatory compliance, vendor relationships, and operational performance to ensure maximum uptime and productivity. An active CDL is preferred for firsthand knowledge, experience, and flexibility with delivery issues when needed.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities 1. Essential Job Duties
  • Fleet, Equipment & Operational Management
  • Oversee daily fleet operations, dispatching loads, coordinating overnight loads, load scheduling and operational planning. Permits for oversize loads
  • Coordinating overnight trip planning and lodging for drivers.
  • Manage fleet documentation and asset records for insurance purposes and life cycle planning
  • Ensure equipment availability, reliability for operational needs and compliance
  • Develop and manage preventative maintenance and inspection program. Essential fleet equipment
  • Work with leasing company on all leased trucks and required compliance
  • Manage Transportation department budget
  • Assist with deliveries as needed
  • Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state and local regulations (ex: DOT, OSHA)
  • Implement and enforce fleet safety programs, policies and training
  • Investigate incidents, accidents and equipment failures; implement corrective actions
  • Compliance & Regulatory Oversight
  • Working with Customs Broker for any loads crossing the border (Canada)
  • Examine, measure or weight material to determine specific handling requirements
  • ELD review for all drivers working within allowable hours of service
  • Oversee all permits management and license plate renewals for truck/trailers
  • Maintaining Driver records, renewals of driver's license, medical card renewals and verification and yearly clearing house/BMV checks
  • Explain and demonstrate work tasks to new hires (ex: road test) or assign training tasks to experienced workers
  • Timecard review and allocating cost centers in payroll
  • Maintenance & Infrastructure Management
  • Supervise in-house truck shop and 2-3 mechanics
  • Plan and manage repairs, approve maintenance-related purchases, coordinate third-party repair vendors and towing services, and evaluate budget and downtime impacts to support efficient operations.
  • Coordinates vehicle and property maintenance (on-site roadway maintenance)
2. Qualifications and Experience
  • CDL preferred
  • 5 plus years' experience in fleet, equipment or maintenance management
  • Strong leadership skills, analytical mindset with attention to detail
  • Ability to articulate and work with customers, supervisors, or other personnel to exchange information or to resolve issues
  • Excellent communication and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Problem-solving and continuous improvement focus
  • Proficient in excel spreadsheets, formulas, pivot tables, word, and able to grasp new software quickly
  • Track and analyze fleet performance, metrics such as maintenance cost, fuel efficiency and utilization
3. Physical & Work Environment Requirements
  • Need to be flexible to run loads when needed
  • Ability to work in shop, and office environments
  • On-call availability for critical equipment issues may be required
  • Work is performed in a manufacturing and production facility with exposure to moving machinery, industrial equipment, forklifts and mobile assets
  • Regular exposure to outdoor environment, noise, dust, heat, cold, fumes, oils and other manufacturing-related conditions
  • Ability to walk, stand, bend, stoop, kneel and climb stairs for extended periods throughout the facility
  • Ability to lift, carry, push or pull up to 50lbs
  • Required use of PPE including but not limited to, safety glasses, steel toe boots, hearing protection, gloves and hard hats
  • Must be able to safety work around moving vehicles and elevated work areas
  • Ability to respond to operational issues, emergencies, or equipment failures in real time, which may require extended hours or on-call availability
  • Must be capable of performing essential job functions in compliance with safety policies and procedures
