Staff Accountant II

Job Summary:

Performs a primary or supporting role in the monthly close process. Completes operational procedures to administer the financial aspects of fully-insured and self-insured related products. Assists in the preparation and analysis of the financial results.

Responsibilities:

• Processes and handles operational functions within Finance areas such as group billing, unclaimed funds, subrogation, and national network arrangements.
• Analyzes general ledger account activity compared to prior period and/or forecast. Researches and explains variances.
• Reconciles complex general ledger accounts ensuring the accuracy of reported balances. Researches any reconciling items and takes necessary action to correct these items.
• Assists in preparing components of the corporate forecast and/or financial statements.
• Prepares monthly general ledger journal entries that impact assigned balance sheet and income statement accounts.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

• Bachelors degree with Accounting, Finance or Business Administration major.
• 1 year of progressive work experience as a staff accountant including experience with journal entries and account reconciliations.

Technical Skills and Knowledge:

• Beginning knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and ability to apply the appropriate accounting standards to the relevant job duties.
• Intermediate Microsoft Office skills including Access
