Position Overview - This is a grant funded position

The Director of AI & Automation Enablement serves as the enterprise leader responsible for driving strategic adoption, safe deployment, and measurable value realization from AI, automation, and intelligent workflow technologies across OCHIN and its member network. This role provides vision, governance, and operational oversight for a portfolio that includes generative and agentic AI tools, predictive modeling, robotic process automation (RPA), intelligent routing, workforce augmentation, and automation-first process redesign.

The Director leads a cross-functional team that partners deeply with members and subject matter experts across the organization to ensure that AI and automation solutions are trustworthy, compliant, well-documented, and deliver scalable impact.

Essential Duties

  • Partner with the key stakeholders to define and execute an AI and automation enablement strategy aligned with OCHIN's corporate goals, strategic priorities, governance principles, and member value.
  • Oversee evaluation, prioritization, and execution of AI and automation initiatives, ensuring consistent processes for piloting, deployment, and scaling.
  • Lead AI governance activities, ensuring compliance with security, privacy, regulatory, and data stewardship standards.
  • Maintain clear, consistent documentation for AI and automation solutions, including model cards, security documents, and decision records.
  • Ensure continual organization wide readiness for adoption and maintenance by integrating solutions into workflows, coordinating change management, and enabling effective training.
  • Support VP to manage relationships with existing and emerging technology partners, coordinating roadmap alignment, contracting needs, joint workplans, performance reviews, and issue resolution.
  • Partner across technical, operational, clinical, and member facing teams to design, deploy, and optimize AI and automation capabilities.
  • Engage with researchers, technology partners and vendors to evaluate new solutions, influence product direction, and bring best practices back to OCHIN.
  • Monitor performance, safety, usage, and value realization of AI and automation tools, using insights to refine strategy and guide continuous improvement.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team; set clear expectations, build capabilities, foster collaboration, and ensure strong cross-functional alignment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements

Required:

  • Master's degree in health care, IT, or related field required
  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience in AI, automation, digital transformation, innovation, or related fields is required
  • Minimum of 3-5 years' experience in health care, health IT, or other highly regulated environments - priority given to candidates with health care/health care IT experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience managing a remote team of 5 or more is required.
  • Demonstrated success leading cross-functional teams and enterprise programs.
  • Strong understanding of AI/ML, RPA, data governance, privacy/security frameworks, and technology enabled process improvement.
  • Exceptional communication, strategic framing, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience introducing new technologies and leading change management in complex organizations.
  • Experience with Epic systems, healthcare interoperability, and payer-provider integration preferred - priority given to candidates with this experience.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience working with federated or distributed health systems preferred.
  • Familiarity with model documentation (e.g., model cards), AI governance frameworks, and large-scale automation programs.

Base Pay Overview

OCHIN uses broadened pay ranges to support equitable and market-aligned compensation practices. The final offer will be based on a variety of factors, including relevant skills, certifications, education, experience, training, responsibilities, internal equity, and market data.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:

  • Constant interpersonal skills, teamwork, and customer service.
  • Frequent creativity, mentoring, presentations/teaching. Occasional decision making and independent judgment or action.
  • Reading, speaking, writing, and understanding English.
  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time; stand and walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms.
  • This position requires a virtual home-office environment, working remotely and will require that employees be on camera for all virtual meetings.
  • The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers and mobile devices.
  • Travel required up to 10% nationally for OCHIN business requirements which may require travel by air, vehicle, or train.

Work Location and Travel Requirements

OCHIN is a 100% remote organization with no physical corporate office location. Employees work remotely from home and many of our positions also support our member organizations on-site for new software installations. Nationwide travel is determined based on OCHIN business needs. Please inquire during the interview process about travel requirements for this position.
