Overview

The purpose of this position is to provide efficient operation of the Altorfer Rental Central Transportation. As Dealers start and grow their businesses, they will face different sets of challenges, which will require different types of support. The role of the Central Transportation Dispatcher is to efficiently deliver and pick up a variety of equipment to support the needs of the customer and the dealership. To be effective the Central Transportation Dispatcher must establish an understanding of the objectives and accountabilities below.



Basic Duties

    Schedule outside hauling for deliveries/pickups that cannot be made with Altorfer owned vehicles.
  • Exercises discretion in evaluating and selecting third party hauling vendors, balancing cost, efficiency, and customer impact.
  • Maximize routes for drivers. Works with 8-12 drivers daily scheduling routes as to have trucks full going out and returning to the stores.
  • Complete timely paperwork, reporting and invoicing.
  • Actively communicate with customers, sales team and rental coordinators daily with equipment being dispatched.
  • Complete special assignments or projects from Rental Operations and Sales Manager by required time.
  • Will be utilized to do monthly/yearly trucking budgets.
  • Tracking services/repairs on delivery fleet. Responsible for making decisions on repairs to delivery vehicles.
  • Advises senior leadership on fleet replacement and acquisition strategy, providing cost and utilization analysis to support purchasing decisions.
  • Required to order state and local oversize and over width hauling permits.
  • Follow established procedures to communicate with the service dept. on equipment related issues.

POSITION PROFILE:

  • Must be able to work with minimal manager supervision and has the authority to make daily business and operational decisions without constant manager approval.
  • Must be able to act in a quick and persuasive manner to meet the day to day demands of the customers and fellow Altorfer employees.
  • Regularly makes independent operational decisions that affect customer satisfaction, cost control, and business efficiency.
  • Communications skills are essential to succeed in this position.
  • Discusses customer needs, suggesting the most suitable and safe equipment for the application.
  • Works closely with all personnel to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Is a source of information for salespeople and coordinators about related equipment and delivery options available in the local market area.
  • Asks questions about delivery conditions such as dock heights, narrow streets, etc.
  • Notify customers immediately if there are any delivery delays.


Qualifications

  • Understands usage and applications of all rental equipment and services offered.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of "common" equipment loads and how to organize.
  • MS Word and Excel a plus. Basic computing key to role success using software for dispatch
  • Must recognize differences between similar products and the advantages / disadvantages of particular applications.
  • Must have working knowledge of construction phases to properly advise applications.
  • Must have knowledge of permits and how to obtain them (state, local, county)
  • While this role does require data input, a genuine understanding of trucking is required to be able to properly fill trucks to the fullest extent as it affects all areas of our daily operation.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with clean driving record. This includes no more than 2 minor violations within the past 3 years and no major violations within the past 5 years (Motor Vehicle Report will be performed on final candidate).


Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

This position works in an office environment, shop environment and may be subject to both inside and outside conditions. May, on a continuous basis, sit at a desk for a long period of time; answer telephone in the yard supporting delivery operations. Noise level in the shop/yard environment is usually moderate, and the noise level in the office environment is usually low. Must be flexible to work varying schedules and hours as needed. Occasional local travel may be required. The physical demands described above are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
