Description
The department of Facilities Management at West Virginia University is currently seeking applicants for a Painter II - Health Sciences Center. About the Opportunity Under the direction of the Manager and/or Lead, this position will finish, prepare and paint various surfaces as assigned as Health Sciences Center facilities. What You'll Do
- Is responsible for preparation and painting of all types of various surfaces related to the Health Sciences facilities and associated research areas.
- Will be required to prime/paint various surfaces such as drywall, plaster, concrete, metal, and composite materials.
- Prepare and finish various wood surfaces such as door and cabinets utilizing proper materials and techniques.
- Prepare and paint equipment as assigned. Will be responsible to ensure equipment is locked out and tagged out and follow all safety instructions regarding work practices and application procedures.
- Will apply all materials according to manufacturer's recommendations with regards to personal safety and individuals within work area.
- Will ensure safety barriers, safety procedures, safety equipment, etc. are properly utilized to include personal protection equipment, caution tape, ventilation, harnesses, etc.
- Must be to work from scaffolding, ladders, and other equipment utilizing brush, rollers and/or spray equipment in application of various varnishes, paints or other types of finish products.
- Will maintain safe standards and working conditions following all state, local, and federal requirements.
- Operate and maintain various equipment associated with the painting trade such as mixers, tinting equipment, shakers, spray machines, etc.
- Incumbent will complete perform aspects of plaster and drywall finishing and various touch-up techniques associated with trade. The end product will be ready for painting or various other finish products upon completion.
- May be required to fill in for the Lead or assist other crafts as assigned.
Will be required to operate power lifts, scaffold, or similar types of equipment. Must be able to work from scaffolding, ladders, and other equipment utilizing brush, rollers and/or spray equipment in application of various varnishes, paints, or other types of finish products.
Pay Grade: 14 Hours: M-F 7am - 3 pm
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- A minimum of two (2) years experience in the following:
- Broad based knowledge of painting trade and commercial equipment.
- Must have one of the following:
- 2 years experience in general trades building maintenance experience in the areas of basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, or other craft trades.
- Completion of an associate degree in building maintenance or other craft trade.
- Completion of a 2-year accredited vocational craft trades program.
- Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered
- All qualifications must be met by the time of employment
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of local, state and federal building codes
- Ability to read blueprints and construction diagrams
- Ability to stoop, bend, crawl and climb heights over 10 feet
- Ability to work in inclement weather conditions
- Ability to work around moving equipment
- Ability to have excellent eye to hand coordination
- Ability to hear and interpret sounds in work area and verbal instructions
- Ability to lift materials over 50 lb.
- Ability to work in extreme hot or cold areas such as steam tunnels and coolers
- Ability to use logical problem-solving techniques
- Demonstrated ability to perform mathematical computations.
- Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer.
- Demonstrated ability to work with people in a stressful environment.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate well utilizing both written and oral instructions.
- Demonstrated ability to perform all assigned related tasks.
- Demonstrated knowledge of technical terms related to painting trades.
- Demonstrated ability to work with multi-craft personnel.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain proper attendance and punctuality standards.
- Knowledge of local, state and federal building codes
Physical Demands:
- Stooping, walking, reaching, standing, crouching in very confined areas
- Climbing ladders, scaffolds, platforms at various heights and levels over 10 feet
- Lift materials over 50 pounds
