What to Expect

Tesla is currently seeking a motivatedManufacturingEngineerwithexpertisein discrete event simulationmodelingtodesign thematerial flow for Global Factory Design projects. This role focuses onthe end-to-enddesign of material flow, from conceptdesignthroughhandoffof a fully detailed planto Operations.Thisrole willdesign thematerialinbound process, provide material handlingequipment needs, specify equipmentto minimize manual handling, andensure thelineside spaceis efficiently designed. This role requires anunderstanding ofManufacturingEngineeringfundamentalswithasolidproficiencyin simulation modeling. It is critical for a successful applicant to solve problems using firstprinciplesanalysis, and exercise aggressive design optimization.

The teamis responsible fordeveloping a factory design which supports seamless integration between production, material flow, construction, and facilities teams. Innovation is expected. Through a detailed understanding of the high-level factoryobjectivesand extensive collaboration with the internal and external teams designing individual factory components, this team ensures that the factory design as whole achieves all of Tesla'sobjectives.

The ideal candidate will excel in a demanding and fast-paced environment where they will work as part of a strong, agile, and highly motivated team toaccomplishsome of the most ambitious projects beingattemptedin any industry today. A successfulapplicantwill take pride in their thoroughness, analytical ability, organizational skills, and team mentality. The candidate will be able to think at a systems level about ambiguous problems and use strong logic to develop models thatdriveoptimalfactory design decisions.

What You'll Do
  • Displaya positive attitude and practice strong work ethics thatreflectsthe mission, philosophyand goals of Tesla

  • DevelopEnd to EndMaterial FlowSimulation Modelfor the entirety of theBill of Materials for new products and new factories/expansions, whileoptimizingvariables such as factory space, laborand throughput

  • Design and implement custom modules, objects, andFlexScript / C++ solutions for tailored simulationsfor complexmaterial flow models

  • PerformCapacityPlanning calculationsto ensure accurateresource& equipmentplanning for the designed systemsuch asmaterial handling labor, warehousespaceand material handling equipment

  • Challenge the assumptionsbehind manufacturingdesigns, andbase recommendationsofdesign on first principles approach

  • Collaborate with cross functional teamssuch as layout, production control, infrastructure, manufacturing design, etc., to ensure the right strategies of material flow designs are implemented and evaluate solutions for complex comparison scenarios in manufacturing environments

  • Create andmaintaindigital twin models to test andvalidatefactory operations, warehousesand material flowsystemdesigns

  • Perform clash detection analysis for material flow routes in the factory footprintto ensure smooth flow of materials

What You'll Bring
  • 2+ years of industrial, ormanufacturing engineering experience with emphasis ondiscrete event simulations formaterial flow/supply chain/process improvement(internship experience will be considered)

  • Degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Computer Science and/or equivalent experience

  • 2+ years ofhands-onexperiencein simulation modeling, particularlyusing FlexSimin a manufacturing or warehousing environment(academic experience will be considered)

  • Experience with developing features and modules within discrete event simulation software withFlexScript, C++ and/or Visual Basic (VB)

  • Demonstrated leadership and ability to drive projects with diverse teams in ahigh-volumemanufacturing environment

  • Experience quantitatively solving ambiguous problems at a systems level

  • Extensivedetailed analysis experience to make data-driven decisions and summarize results for executives

  • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills

  • Extensive experience with Excel (VBA a plus)anddata visualization/analysis software such as Tableau, SQL
