This Research Program Associate position will be responsible for coordinating, developing, and overseeing the overall post-award grant cycle activities for sponsored projects. These include complex multi-site projects from a variety of sponsors, federal and non-federal. The individual will work directly with the Principal Investigators (PIs) and will be expected to function independently, with general oversight from the Manager of Research Administration
RST/
POD 1, which supports seven academic units*, and in coordination with the Associate Deans for Research, the Finance Directors and other members of the administrative teams within those units, as well as central administration, including the Office of the Vice Provost for Research (
OVPR) and Grants and Contracts Accounting Services (
GCAS).
As a liaison between sponsors, investigators, and campus partners, this role is critical to maintaining effective relationships, compliance, and responsiveness to the George Washington University, federal, and sponsor policies, regulations, and values.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Handles all communication and coordination with subcontractors, public, private, and government agencies, foundations, and other individuals or groups to exchange information, enlist collaboration, and oversee sponsored projects.
- Organize award set-up upon receipt of new awards with the PI and OVPR (e.g., administrative establishments, contracts, sub-awards, etc.) Works with faculty PIs and OVPR regarding annual renewals of awards (progress reports, no-cost extensions, etc.)
- Oversee the post-award administration of sponsored projects within the portfolio of departments and schools, including reimbursements, faculty salary, purchase order requisitions, service agreements, invoice payments, P-Card activities, payroll distributions, stipends, and tuition benefits, etc.
- Handles special assigned projects while supporting a broad portfolio of awards and sponsored project funding.
- Facilitates financial award management, award spending projections, and reporting. Meets regularly with PIs to review.
- Maintains familiarity with OMB Uniform Guidance, University policies and procedures and federal grant and contract regulations; ensures all reports and certifications are processed for grant close-outs; establishes and maintains grant proposal files and updates appropriate databases.
- Provide directions to management of post-award functions and facilitate the management of awarded projects, including project closeouts, memoranda, and correspondence designed to document as well as enhance and expand research activities and programs, and ensure that deliverables and milestones are met. Maintains continual contact with PIs, OVPR and GCAS and others concerning financial matters related to the projects.
- Identifies issues and streamlines activities that further benefit the RST/POD, OVPR and PIs.
- Responsible for completing special projects on behalf of the RST/POD (e.g., preparing Standard Operating Procedures, evaluating RST/POD metrics to assist leadership).
- Serves as a liaison between the RST/POD and OVPR.
- Enhances professional knowledge and skills by attending seminars/workshops and reviewing published literature and federal guidelines.
Performs other work related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position. |
| Minimum Qualifications: |
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. |
