Pay Rate/Range: The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $66,840/yr to $74,688/year. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable, and consistent pay practices at the University. The full salary range for this position is $58,600/year to $100,800/year.

Brief Summary of Job Duties:

Updates Associated Student Legal Code based on legislation passed at weekly meetings and maintains the historical records of changes. Serves as advisor for the Advocacy Committee, High Impact Projects, and the Offices of Senate Leadership. Serves as the secondary advisor for the Office of the Internal Vice President. Supervises student staff minute takers and A.S. Main Office Front Desk student staff. Reports to the Assistant Director of Governmental Affairs and supports the administrative and programmatic needs of the Student Government entities.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • 1-3 years Experience in political science, public policy, or law.
  • 1-3 years Experience in an institution of higher education working with college students in an academic advising or counseling capacity, or other field that is directly related to the functions of the position or equivalency as determined by the hiring authority.
  • 1-3 years Experience in working with diverse communities and across multiple identities and respect and consideration for all identities, perspectives, and differences.
  • Knowledge of student development theories and practice; counseling and crisis intervention, conflict mediation, and assessment measurement and design.
  • Ability to research and educate students and staff respecting applicable state and federal laws.
  • Thorough knowledge of Student Affairs / Student Life specialization.
  • Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving, identifying measures of system performance and the actions to improve performance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree
  • 1-3 years Experience working in higher education, corporation, law firm or other related setting required.
  • Thorough knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.
  • Strong knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs and knowledge of University and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences.
  • Abilities in project management, problem identification and reasoning skills.
  • Ability to develop original ideas to solve problems.
  • Background in political science, public policy, or law preferred.
  • Understanding of long term ramifications of policy.

Misconduct Disclosure Requirement:

Job Functions and Percentages of Time:

  • 45% Student Governing Documents - Updates Associated Student Legal Code documents based on legislation passed at weekly meetings, maintains the historical records of changes and provides research and information on past policies and procedures. Provides written reports regarding the entry of legislation into the Legal Code. Ensures each piece of legislation is notated as to its status and records entry to the Legal Code with notes or comments as needed. Updates Associated Students Financial Policies and Procedures based on legislation passed at weekly Finance Committee meetings, and maintains historical records of changes. Updates Associated Students Elections Code based on legislation passed at Senate meetings, and maintains historical records of changes. Maintains records of Boards Commissions and Units (BCU) and entity minutes utilizing the AS Minutes drive, or other appropriate technology. Reviews minutes on a weekly basis, and provides feedback to students regarding the minute requirements, templates, and submission. Facilitates or oversees training for students in the areas of document management, minute taking, or other topics as assigned. Coordinates with the Financial Operations Team to keep record of and communicate any financial allocations made by BCU's, Senate, and the High Impact Projects.
  • 40% Advising - Serves as the primary advisor for Senate Committees and Projects and other Student Government entities as needed. Including, but not limited to: Advocacy Committee, High Impact Projects, and the Offices of Senate Leadership. Serves as the secondary advisor for the Office of the Internal Vice President. Attends weekly Finance Committee meetings as a representative of Governmental Affairs on an as needed or assigned basis. Attends weekly Senate meetings as a representative of Governmental Affairs on a weekly basis. Attends weekly meetings and consults with committee leadership on an on-going basis. Provides training on leadership, interpersonal communication, project coordination, community engagement, internal AS policies, University policies, and other topics as needed. Assists students in establishing goals and desired outcomes, assesses needs, and participates in long range planning and development of new initiatives and projects. Provides guidance on programming, funding, possible collaborations, document preparation and retention, internal and external communication, and networking with internal and campus entities. Utilizes knowledge of local resources and awareness of current political climate to advise students on complex issues. Mediates conflict and facilitates conversations between students. Supports students in distress, providing referral to resources as needed. Advises students on best practices for transparency, confidentiality, document management and retention, meeting facilitation, and networking. Provides regular reports to entities to appraise them of departmental updates, changes to University Policy, and other updates as appropriate. Advises committees in their review of weekly legislation and advising their understanding the impact a bill may have to the Association, the campus, and the local community. Facilitates internal and external relationships as appropriate. Utilizes student development theory to apply insights regarding the appropriate amount of challenge and support. Uses principles and theory to inform training, leadership development, and co-curricular programs that support students' developmental stages, including their own identity development. Supports an inclusive campus environment for diverse students of varying backgrounds. Addresses accessibility issues within committees and their initiatives, and encourages holistic development and sustainable practices. May attend other Student Government entity meetings as needed or required as a secondary advisor.
  • 15% Supervising Student Staff - Supervises the Student Staff A.S. Minute Takers and the Student Staff Front Desk Receptionists in A.S. Main. Coordinates schedules, on-boarding, and professional development for all student staff under their supervision. AS student staff in minute-taking for Senate, and Finance Board.Works collaboratively with the Administrative and HR teams to recruit, hire, and train student employees, ensuring compliance with University and departmental hiring procedures. Maintains and updates procedure documents, training materials, and workflow guides to ensure consistent and efficient operations. Provides ongoing oversight, feedback, and mentorship to student staff to foster professionalism, accuracy, and accountability in their roles. Assists with issues that arise in A.S. Main as needed. Communicates and refers issues to the supervisor, Assistant Director of Governmental Affairs. Other duties as assigned.
