Join us this summer! Our Retail Banker role is a temporary opportunity in the Upper Valley of Vermont and New Hampshire, expected to take place during summer 2026.

This position is primarily responsible for accurately and efficiently processing and recording routine transactions for Mascoma Bank customers including cashing checks, accepting deposits and withdrawals, processing loan payments and money transfers. Retail Bankers must also promote and advise on the Mascoma Bank's products and services.

Essential Functions

1) Processes a variety of customer-initiated transactions to include:

  • Cashing checks in accordance with check cashing policy
  • Making deposits for commercial and non-commercial customers, ensuring the proper endorsement on negotiable instruments within these deposits.
  • Adheres to Bank standards for fund availability and places holds on customer accounts when applicable
  • Accepts and processes all types of loan payments relative to mortgages and personal loans.
  • Issues cash advances.
  • Issues money orders, official checks, bonds and other negotiable instruments in accordance with established policies.
  • Reconciles cash and transactions each day using a Proof system of ins and outs. Adheres to the "teller balancing guidelines", reports results through submission of teller electronic balancing, and maintains currency and coin in drawer within established levels.
  • Input and follow up with customer information using Synapsys on a daily basis.

2) Adheres to Sales and Service Standards and the Banks Purpose and Values by:

  • Demonstrating continuously a helpful, friendly, positive attitude
  • Good communication skills for interacting with customers (internally and externally).
  • Initiate conversations with customers to introduce products and services.
  • Build and enhance customer relationships by cross-selling bank products and making referrals across business lines, making goals.
  • Continually strive to create a "WOW" experience for customers (internal and external)
  • Generate options for customer situations.
  • Make reasonable decisions based on customer needs and relationships.

3) Maintains neat and orderly work area and insures that all negotiable items and confidential records are properly secured.

4) Understands bank robbery procedure and other bank security policies.

5) Attends appropriate training programs as made available by the bank.

6 )Maintains awareness of the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA).

  • Location of CRA statement in branch lobby.
  • Location of CRA folder in branch office.
  • Name of MB's CRA Officer.
  • Location of entire CRA file for MB.

7) Adheres to the Banks Policy and Procedures, the CIP Program and BSA.

  • Interview customer to insure customer security and safety.
  • Notify management of potential security concerns.
  • Verify customer information using "Work With Persons" when handling large currency transactions.

8) Endorses and participates in the Bank's Programs including: Stakeholders and Situational Leadership

9) Adheres to the Secret Shop Standards

10) Adheres to and upholds all written policies and procedures of the Bank, including BSA/CIP and OFAC monitoring and reporting, security, operation, and personnel policies.

Nonessential Functions of Position

  1. Service and supplies ATM as scheduled.
  2. Performs additional duties as requested.
Requirements

What You'll Need

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to use and working knowledge of computers/strong keyboarding skills
  • Good interpersonal communication
  • Able to maintain confidentiality and privacy
  • Professional appearance; grooming and dress consistent with MSB appearance policy
  • Flexibility in job schedules including Saturday and early morning drive-up hours and work locations

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

  • Must be able to lift or transport up to 25 pounds on their own or 50 pounds with another person (accommodations can be made as needed)
  • Varied work with a normal expenditure of energy and little or no unusual physical effort?
  • May involve incidental business machine operations
  • Work involves intermittent periods of stationary positioning and traversing
  • Working conditions include well-lit and well-ventilated areas
