The Product Manager's primary purpose is to maximize market share through ensuring individual products, engineered solutions, complete portfolios, and the overall purchasing experience meet and exceed the customers' value proposition expectations. The incumbent aims to optimize profit while managing marketing, financial, and corporate growth objectives for all applicable markets and sales channels. Responsibilities are accomplished by serving as facilitator, coordinator, and leader between internal organizations, such as sales, engineering, marketing, systems, operations, quality, and finance, confirming products are supported and executed in the most effective manner.

Key areas of responsibility include deep understanding & knowledge of the market, portfolio management, product development process, and strategic positioning. This includes planning and organizing product lines from conceptual stages through the entire product life cycle - with ownership of products' growth and profitability. Success in this role requires extensive product knowledge, high business sense, and a complete understanding of the competitive landscape.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Product Strategy and Planning

    • Identify new markets and revenue opportunities through research and competitive analysis
    • Develop, define, communicate, and execute a product roadmap for the assigned business brands and portfolios
    • Lead product portfolio strategy and product development/enhancement initiatives
    • Define and maintain go-to-market approaches, growth targets, and sales plans
    • Maximize profitability by developing pricing strategies suitable for increasing market share

Product Development and Lifecycle Management

    • Effective communication, influencing, and collaborating cross-functionally with customers, sales channels, engineering, systems, marketing, operations, quality, and finance
    • Manage product lifecycle, including enhancements, updates, and discontinuations
    • Lead, set direction, and prioritize new product development and launch plans
    • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements

Marketing and Sales Support

    • Work closely with marketing to create product messaging and promotional materials
    • Communicate product information and product strategies to all functional areas, providing as needed technical product training
    • Develop launch strategies for new products

Financial and Performance Management

    • Monitor product sales, profitability, and market share, taking corrective actions as needed
    • Establish pricing strategies balancing market trends, cost factors, and revenue objectives
    • Prepare annual budgets and forecasts for assigned business brands

Customer and Market Engagement

    • Engage with key customers, distributors, and industry leaders to build relationships and gather information
    • Maintain and leverage industry intelligence, customer insights, and competitive research, sharing competitive analysis materials to internal organizations regularly
    • Oversee accuracy of customer proposals and quotations
    • Partner with sales channels to lead contract reviews and negotiations with customers

QUALIFICATIONS

    • BS Engineering, Business, or Marketing required (MBA preferred)
    • Minimum of five years of relevant product management experience
    • Proven track record of managing product lines and delivering growth

TECHNICAL & BUSINESS SKILLS

    • Broad product and market intelligence
    • High technical knowledge and aptitude
    • Skilled at translating technical insights into business strategies
    • Effective communication and presentation skills with the ability to address and communicate to a variety of different types of audiences
    • Experienced at assessing and presenting complex problems in a structured, simplified form
    • Ability to interpret engineering drawings
    • Establish and lead new product development through the stage-gate process
    • Experience with pricing strategies, forecasting, financial modeling, and distribution channels
    • Proven ability to evaluate data, identify trends, and provide analysis
    • Strategic decision-making skills

SOFTWARE PROFICIENCY

    • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office products
    • Understanding of relational database concepts
    • Experience with ERP systems (Oracle, SAP, or similar)

TRAVEL & WORKING ENVIRONMENT

    • Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds
    • Bending/stooping
    • Keyboarding/typing
    • Ability to read effectively from a computer screen and/or paper copy
    • Office and plant environment with varying degrees of noise levels
    • On-site at times, may be exposed to severe weather and/or excessive heat
    • Minimum 25% - both domestic and international travel
