As the Specialist for Department of Transportation Compliance, you serve as a strategic safety partner and regulatory architect for the Northern California & Nevada Region. You will spearhead the development and implementation of high-impact driver training programs, safety procedures, and compliance policies designed to eliminate work-related accidents and injuries. This role is not merely administrative; it is the driving force behind the Regional Company's overall direction and evaluation of the driver mentoring program.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Safety Culture Leadership: Champion the "Zero Incident" mindset, fostering a proactive culture where associates are empowered to submit "Good Catch" reports and incident notifications.

  • Elite Training & Coaching: Deliver the Smith Training program and provide hands-on coaching to new and tenured drivers, ensuring expertise in fundamental routing and tool utilization. Train new front line leaders in all aspects of DOT..

  • Regulatory Mastery: Oversee all facets of DOT compliance, including HM 126F, security training, and the administration of rigorous road tests and commercial vehicle inspections.

  • Compliance Technology Oversight: Leverage advanced systems such as Tenstreet for Driver Qualification Files (DQF), Lytx for safety camera coaching, and Omnitracs for Hours of Service monitoring.

  • Audit & Risk Management: Lead internal DOT and SMS compliance audits, conduct accident investigations, and participate in incident review committees to recommend sophisticated corrective actions.

  • Fleet Synergy: Coordinate with the Fleet Department to ensure preventive maintenance, BIT inspections, and vehicle log files remain in perfect regulatory standing.

  • Professional Mentorship: Direct and evaluate the Regional Driver Mentor Program, ensuring seamless onboarding and continuous proficiency for all associates.

________________________ Are you a MATCH? Required Qualifications:
  • Professional Foundation: Bachelor's degree in Industrial or Occupational Safety (or related field) is highly preferred.

  • Industry Credentials: Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) designation is a significant advantage.

  • Technical Expertise: 3-5 years of progressive experience in a safety-related capacity within relevant industries.

  • Operational Requirements:

  • Must possess a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Hazmat and Airbrake endorsements.

  • Must possess knowledge and understanding of DOT and OSHA rules and regulations and training requirements.

  • Frequent travel (occasional overnight) across the region to ensure facility excellence.

  • Communication & Analysis: Exceptional interpersonal and group communication skills and the analytical ability to synthesize complex data into valid, actionable conclusions

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in industrial or occupational safety preferred, or a similar discipline that would be considered relevant to this position.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) designation is preferred.
  • SAP or similar software system experience. Intermediate skills operating a computer in Windows based environment is recommended.
  • Minimum 3-5 years' experience in safety related capacity, previous safety experience in related industries.
