Primary Purpose:


Delivers advanced accounting support for energy trading activities by handling complex reconciliations, validating trade data, and analyzing profit and loss movements. Improves operational efficiency through process refinement and proactive issue resolution.


Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Records and validates physical and financial trades in trading systems, ensuring accurate pricing and counterparties.
  • Reviews and approves transportation, freight, and broker invoices; resolves discrepancies with trading desks.
  • Performs month-end reconciliations of trading positions, settlement records, and inventory balances.
  • Calculates and explains daily and monthly profit and loss movements, providing variance analysis to traders.
  • Tracks hedge entries and reconciles hedge positions against trading activity for compliance.
  • Prepares documentation for audits and regulatory compliance, including internal control testing.
  • Monitors automated invoice processes and works with technology teams to resolve data integrity issues.
  • Identifies opportunities to streamline accounting workflows and improve reporting accuracy.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:



  • Typically requires a 4 year degree in a relevant field, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Typically requires 5 years of related experience.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • 1 or more years experience pertaining to commodity markets.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Accounting Principles and Standards (IFRS, GAAP) - Apply financial reporting framework prescribed by the relevant governing body to ensure all transactions meet regulatory requirements.
  • Accounts Reconciliation - Comparing sets of financial records to ensure accuracy and prevent balance sheet errors.
  • Auditing - The systematic examination, analysis, and evaluation of processes, records, or systems to verify their accuracy, compliance, effectiveness, and integrity, often conducted by independent professionals to provide assurance or identify areas for improvement, which can be applied to areas beyond finance, such as operational, IT, or compliance audits.
  • Documentation & Records Management - Creating, distributing, using, maintaining and disposition of recorded information maintained as evidence of business activities and transactions.
  • Energy Transaction Management - Managing the purchase or sale of a specified quantity of energy at a known transaction point or through an organized market.
  • Financial Analysis - Analyzes the financial statements and data to provide insights about the financial performance and position of the organization over time.
  • Financial Reporting - Financial reporting is a standard accounting practice that uses financial statements to disclose a company's financial information and performance over a particular period, usually on an annual or quarterly basis.
  • General Ledger Accounting - The record-keeping system for a company's financial data, with debit and credit account records validated by a trial balance.
  • Regulatory Compliance - Ensuring an organization's adherence to laws, regulations, guidelines and specifications relevant to its business processes.
  • Variance Analysis - Analyzing the difference between actuals and some predetermined measure such as a budget, plan or rolling forecast.
