Essential Job Duties
The Program Coordinator will be responsible for the following:

Student Advising & Support Services

  • Provide program services ensuring personal, vocational, and educational guidance
  • Provide academic assistance to specified students
  • Assess needs for each participant
  • Assist participants with the college application and financial aid process


Academic Coordination & Monitoring

  • Coordinate and support academic elements for both Upward Bound programs
  • Conduct academic monitoring (transcripts, report cards, course selection, advisement)
  • Maintain students' academic records and files
  • Ensure accuracy of each student's academic progress

Program Planning & Participant Engagement

  • Plan cultural and educational activities for participants
  • Visit all assigned schools

Recruitment & Outreach
  • Recruit program participants within target schools
Data Management & Compliance
  • Maintain accurate participant files and contact information
Staff Hiring, Training & Development

  • Assist with summer personnel hiring process (timeline, recruitment materials, interviews, hiring decisions)
  • Develop training modules for orientation and summer training
  • Coordinate and facilitate orientation and training

Other Responsibilities

  • Other tasks and responsibilities may be assigned based on the needs of the organization and evolving priorities.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Work extended week day hours and approximately two Saturdays per month.

Qualifications






Minimum Education and Experience
  • Require post-baccalaureate credentials or a bachelor's degree plus alternative or equivalent professional training and experience may be substituted for the advanced degree on an exceptional basis.
Other Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Social Science or equivalent field and an equivalent professional training and experience.
  • Experience in academic skill development, counseling and working with non-traditional students and various populations.
  • Database software proficiency required.
  • Knowledge and ability to use Google Suites, Microsoft Office Word, Publisher and PowerPoint.
  • Proficient knowledge in utilizing social media technology as a professional tool.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefer Master's degree in counseling, education, humanities, social sciences or a related field.


Knowledge of:

  • NC Education Graduation Requirement Code and requirements of the 4-year and community college enrollment process.
  • Student Database Management Systems.
  • Modern office procedures, practices and equipment.

Ability to:

  • Assist in the development, direction and coordination of policies, programs and services.
  • Interpret and apply a variety of rules, regulations, policies, and guidelines regarding the federal grant.
  • Review and analyze data for accuracy and completeness and make recommendations.
  • Meet schedules and timelines.
  • Interact with others using tact, patience and courtesy.
  • Provide tactical planning.
  • Ability to multitask at varying levels of detail.
  • Organize relatively complex projects or activities that are interdepartmental in scope.
  • Embrace a vision and coordinate details of implementation.
