Position Summary

Provides administrative oversight and support to Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) practice within University Health Service. Establishes relationships and partnership with Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs), physicians, UHS Clinic Director, and department leadership to support and improve the practice, quality and outcomes of clinical care and regulatory compliance. Functions as a lead in the clinical practice, orientation, competency validation and professional development of the APPs within the University Health Service. May also assume full direction for the clinical staff in the absence of the Clinic Director.

Duties & Responsibilities

Operational Responsibilities:
  • Works with APPs and UHS leadership to achieve organizational and departmental goals and objectives.
    Strong program development, implementation and maintenance of the following:
  • Specialty research surveillance protocols (Hepatitis B, HIV, Covid-19, PFAS, Etc.) in collaboration with UHS leadership, the
  • Biologic Resource Lab (BRL) and the Environmental Health & Safety Office for Biological Safety).
  • Exposures to include campus and UI Health exposure programs for highly infectious diseases (HID) e.g. Varicella, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, SARS, etc.
  • Periodic surveillance/monitoring programs for UIC staff to include BRL (annual and B virus), Microbiology Lab Workers (Meningitis vaccination), healthcare workers with HID (HBsAg+, HCV+, HIV+ in Class III positions), USP 800, asbestos, hearing conservation, Advanced PPE, Haz Mat, and Formaldehyde assessments.
  • UI Health Zero Harm Programs related to UI Health Employees. This includes sharps injuries / blood borne pathogen exposures, safe patient handling / lifting injuries, slips, trips, falls. Provides data on workplace violence incidents, however oversight is limited.
  • Worker injury OSHA Log maintenance (UIC & UI Health) for various campus locations, provides end of year reports for dissemination of data to the Environmental Health & Safety Office. To include College of Medicine Peoria & Rockford campuses.
  • Serve as a resource for appropriate APP Workers' Compensation billing. Perform auditing on billing / coding and EMR charting to determine metrics for productivity and evaluation of patient care by APP providers.
  • Manage schedule, staffing plan & coverage within the assigned area.
  • Collaborates with Clinic Director and department leadership in the development of annual operational and capital budgets.
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Legislative and Health Policy Issues for APPs: Establishes relationships with key stakeholders to assess best practices and special-specific changes to APP practice. Ensures that these changes are communicated and incorporated into APP clinical practice

Practice Analysis:
  • Serves as an expert resource in the utilization of APPs within the area of care delivery.
  • Identifies new and existing best practice initiatives, collaborates in the determination of competency metrics, collaborates in assessing financial productivity and participates in clinical outcome data assessment and analysis.

Hiring/Orientation:
  • Participates in and leads the onboarding of APPs within University Health Service.
  • Works in collaboration with the Clinic Director and departmental leadership to maintain documentation related to orientation, continued competency validation, credentialing and privileging.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from accredited APRN program with a master's degree in nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice is required.
  • Current license as a Professional Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois is required.
  • Certified Occupational Health Nurse Specialist (COHN-S) and Case Management (CM) preferred through the American Board for Occupational Health Nurses (ABOHN)
  • DOT Certified Medical Examiner preferred.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • Current controlled substance licensure required.
  • Excellent communication skills including oral written and presentation; ability to supervise staff, critical thinking and strong problem-solving skills, that facilitate therapeutic relationships between physicians, APRN as well as college and hospital leadership and the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated experience in leadership, multidisciplinary collaboration, interpersonal communication, education, and clinical experience and change management required.
  • Minimum of three years working as a Nurse Practitioner in Occupational Health
