Senior Security Engineer - Microsoft Purview & AWS

Employment Type: ContracttoHire

Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Security Engineer with deep expertise in Microsoft Purview and Amazon Web Services (AWS) to design, implement, and operate enterprisescale data protection, compliance, and monitoring capabilities across hybrid and multicloud environments.

This is a handson, architectureadjacent role with ownership for policy design, automation, integrations, and operational excellence across Microsoft 365 and AWS platforms. The engineer will partner closely with Security Architecture, Cloud Platform, Data Governance, Legal, and Compliance teams to ensure solutions are regulatorready, auditable, and aligned to business risk.


Key Responsibilities
Microsoft Purview Engineering

  • Design, implement, and manage Microsoft Purview capabilities, including:

    • Sensitivity labels and autolabeling strategies
    • Enterprisescale Data Loss Prevention (DLP) policies
    • Insider Risk Management configuration and tuning
    • Records Management, retention, audit, eDiscovery, and compliance workflows


  • Define technical standards, configuration baselines, and guardrails across Microsoft 365 workloads (Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams)
  • Continuously tune controls using telemetry, alerts, and impact analysis to reduce false positives
  • Act as an escalation point for complex Purviewrelated investigations and incidents


AWS Security & Data Protection

  • Design and implementAWSnative security controls, including:

    • CloudTrail, Security Hub, and centralized logging
    • IAM roles, permission boundaries, and Service Control Policies (SCPs)


  • Integrate AWS telemetry into enterprise SIEM platforms
  • Partner with cloud teams to ensure sensitive data in AWS meets classification, retention, and monitoring requirements
  • Support data protection for AWShosted analytics, storage, and AI/ML workloads where applicable


Automation, Integration & Scale

  • Build automation using PowerShell, Python, Microsoft Graph APIs, and AWS SDKs
  • Integrate Purview with adjacent platforms (identity, endpoint, CASB, SIEM)
  • Improve reliability and consistency using infrastructureascode and repeatable deployment patterns


Governance, Risk & Compliance

  • Translate regulatory and policy requirements into enforceable technical controls
  • Produce auditready documentation, including architecture diagrams, runbooks, and evidence artifacts
  • Support internal risk assessments, regulatory exams, and control testing with clear technical explanations


Leadership & Collaboration

  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance to operations teams
  • Educate business and technical stakeholders on platform capabilities and best practices
  • Drive proofs of concept and adoption recommendations for new security features


Required Qualifications
Experience

  • 6+ years of experience in information security, cloud security, or data protection engineering
  • 4+ years of handson experience implementing Microsoft Purview in large enterprise environments
  • Proven ability to independently lead initiatives from design through production


Technical Expertise

  • Strong experience with:

    • Microsoft 365 Security & Compliance
    • Sensitivity labeling, DLP, insider risk, and data governance
    • AWS security fundamentals (IAM, logging, guardrails)


  • Experience integrating cloud telemetry into centralized monitoring or SIEM solutions
  • Strong scripting and automation skills


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in regulated or compliancedriven industries (e.g., financial services, healthcare)
  • Familiarity with security and compliance frameworks (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001)
  • Exposure to data security posture management (DSPM) tools
  • Experience supporting AIrelated data protection controls
