UCSF's Temporary Employment Program (TEP) recruits and hires temporary employees for immediate clerical and technical support services to UCSF Departments and various off-campus locations. UCSF departments deploy temporary employees to work on special projects, fill in for regular employees who are on vacation or leave, or to temporarily fill a vacant position during recruitment. Frequently temporary employees become successful candidates for career and limited appointment positions.

The Practice Coordinator 2 (PC2) serves as a key administrative representative and primary point of contact for patients and referring providers. This role supports daily clinic operations, delivers high-quality customer service, and ensures efficient coordination of patient care across administrative and clinical teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate patient scheduling, registration, referrals, and authorizations
  • Serve as a primary contact for patients, providers, and referring physicians
  • Support front desk operations, including check-in, insurance verification, and payment collection
  • Facilitate communication and information flow across care teams to ensure efficient clinic operations
  • Manage electronic health record (APeX) workqueues, messages, and documentation
  • Assist with surgery scheduling, pre-visit coordination, and follow-up care
  • Support revenue cycle activities, including authorizations and billing workflows
  • Provide administrative and care coordination support to providers and clinical staff
  • Deliver excellent customer service, address patient concerns, and support service recovery efforts

  • Demonstrate flexibility, strong organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all UCSF policies and regulatory standards
  • Collaborate effectively with team members and contribute to process improvement initiatives
  • Work across UCSF campuses as needed

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent with 4 years of related experience; or bachelor's degree with 6 months of related experience; or equivalent combination
  • Ability to pass fingerprinting and be approved for cash handling (if applicable)
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and ability to navigate multiple electronic systems
  • Ability to analyze situations, prioritize tasks, and problem-solve independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong organizational, administrative, and office coordination skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and exercise sound judgment under deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations and provide patient-centered service
  • Basic math skills
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods

Preferred:

  • Experience in a healthcare setting (medical, dental, or veterinary), including scheduling, insurance verification, medical records, or patient financial services
  • Experience with appointment, ancillary service, and/or surgical scheduling
  • Experience with EPIC (APeX) electronic health record system
  • Bilingual or multilingual skills (e.g., Spanish, Cantonese, Russian)

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
