THE POSITION

As an Air Monitoring Equipment Specialist for the Department of Environmental Protection, you will help ensure that air monitoring stations operate safely and accurately. This position lets you use technical skills to maintain equipment that supports statewide environmental goals. You will work both independently and with experts to troubleshoot, repair, and verify sensitive instruments. Join a team committed to clean air and strong environmental stewardship.



DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position focuses on maintaining air monitoring stations, supporting accurate data collection, and carrying out essential technical procedures. As an Air Monitoring Equipment Specialist, you will perform the following duties:

  • Routine Maintenance: Perform scheduled preventative maintenance, change filters, check sensors, and keep instruments operating correctly
  • Precision Checks: Review automated analyzer checks, verify results, and troubleshoot equipment that does not meet required limits
  • Instrument Calibration: Calibrate analyzers using certified gases and document all calibration work in the Air Quality Portal
  • Corrective Repairs: Analyze equipment issues, isolate causes, and repair or replace components to maintain reliable data output
  • Sample Management: Collects and refrigerates samples until a pre-scheduled date when they are shipped on ice to the national lab
  • Site Operations: Drive to monitoring sites, maintain supplies, use issued devices for documentation, and support data validation needs

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $45,907 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of technical experience testing and repairing electronic or electrical equipment; or
  • An associate degree in electronics, electrical engineering technology, information sciences and technology, or a closely related field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of an active motor vehicle license.
