About this Position
Pinyon is seeking on-call Certified Asbestos Building Inspectors to provide as-needed field support for soil-disturbing construction and redevelopment projects across the Denver Metro area and greater Colorado. This is a field-focused role supporting active construction sites, where you'll be the on-site regulatory compliance presence for our clients during earthwork involving Regulated Asbestos Contaminated Soil (RACS) and other materials of concern.

Work is dispatched on an as-needed basis tied to client project schedules. Ideal candidates are self-directed, comfortable working independently on active construction sites, and have the flexibility to respond to short-notice field assignments.

Essential Responsibilities
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Provide on-site oversight of solid waste removal - which may or may not contain RACS - and handling during soil-disturbing activities in accordance with CDPHE Air Pollution Control Division requirements and Section 5.5 of the Colorado Solid Waste Regulations
    • Although not required, it is preferred if the candidate has relevant certifications as a certified Air Monitoring Specialist
  • Implement and document Materials Management Plan (MMP) oversight on active construction sites, including soil screening, stockpile management observation, and documentation of non- asbestos-containing material (ACM) of concern
  • Perform pre-demolition and pre-renovation ACM inspections in accordance with CDPHE Regulation No. 8, including bulk sampling, chain-of-custody management, and inspection reporting
  • Conduct lead-based paint (LBP) inspections and sampling in accordance with EPA and HUD protocols
  • Coordinate directly with contractors, project managers, and regulators on site to communicate findings and compliance requirements
  • Collect, label, and submit samples to accredited laboratories; review laboratory results and draft field summaries and formal inspection reports
  • Maintain accurate field documentation, photo logs, and daily field reports
  • Conduct all sampling and field work in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations and Pinyon's internal QA/QC procedures
  • Some travel within Colorado is required; majority of work is in the Denver Metro area

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Current Colorado Certified Asbestos Building Inspector (CDPHE APCD certification); although not required, current Air Monitoring Specialist certification is desirable
  • Qualified to perform RACS oversight in accordance with Colorado state requirements (CDPHE APCD and Section 5.5 of the Colorado Solid Waste Regulations)
    • If qualified as an Air Monitoring Specialist, experience in identifying a Regulated Work Area with associated air monitoring experience is desirable
  • Current OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification with annual refresher (Pinyon will provide recertification if needed)
  • Ability to work independently on active construction sites and respond to on-call dispatch on short notice
  • Capacity to work outdoors in all seasons through various kinds of weather
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office programs
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to reach field sites throughout Colorado
  • Employment is contingent upon passing a background check
Preferred but not Required Skills and Certifications
  • EPA- or HUD-certified Lead-Based Paint Inspector or Risk Assessor
  • Colorado Air Monitoring Specialist (AMS) certification
  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Environmental Health & Safety, Environmental & Occupational Health, or a related science field
  • Prior experience on Denver Metro brownfield, redevelopment, or transportation infrastructure projects
  • Experience with field instrumentation such as personal noise dosimeters, air sampling pumps, and IAQ monitors
