Cleveland-Cliffs, Burns Harbor has an opportunity for a Senior Section Manager - Operations role in our Coke Producing Division. The Senior Section Manager will be responsible for taking the lead role in managing product flow, equipment operations and employee performance so that the products conform to customer requirements and productivity meets business needs. The ideal candidate will have a high level of organization, and ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Supervises and monitors job performances of all operating sections in the Coke Plant, including battery operations, heating operations, and coal chemical/coal handling.

  • Supervises and monitors job performance of Section Managers and Shift Managers versus departmental goals. Assist in development of Coke Plant goals and objectives.

  • Coordinates the safety activities in the Coke Plant. Manages disposition of all unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, all safety interactions and contacts for salary and hourly personnel. Develop safety goals and objectives for Shift Managers.

  • Ensure all environmental controls are fully implemented and functional. Establish appropriate work practices to ensure environmental compliance.

  • Implements and manages process control applications in the operating sections. Continually identifies and eliminates waste through process control.

  • Ensures product flows consistently and smoothly through the entire operation. Understands importance of minimizing delay time and how to adequately handle the product during delays.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 10+ years' of supervisory experience in a heavy manufacturing environment.

  • Strong analytical skills and ability to troubleshoot and solve problems.

  • Excellent verbal and written interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Strong aptitude with experience in maintenance and equipment reliability.

  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and basic computer applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in union environment.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

  • Coke plant operations experience.
