HYBRID ROLE: IN-PERSON AND VIRTUAL VISITS
JOB SUMMARY
The CAS Assessor is responsible for arranging, conducting and completing accurate and thorough assessments using the person-centered approach.
The Coordinated Assessment System (CAS) is an assessment tool used by the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) in New York to evaluate the strengths, needs, and interests of people 18 years or older who receive OPWDD services. The CAS is a person-centered assessment that considers all areas of a person's life, including their living skills, health, behavior, and support. The assessment is conducted through an interview or observation scheduled at a time and location that is convenient for the person, and the assessor is trained to respect the person's time and interests. The assessor may also consult with people who know the person well.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Outreach to individuals and their caregiver/primary supports as necessary during assigned schedule
2. Schedule and coordinate the assessment process with individuals, caregiver/primary support and Care Managers/providers in the home and/or community or via telehealth using a person-centered approach
3. Schedule and conduct the assessment at a location and time which is most convenient for the individual
4. Utilize an in-person, person-centered interview process as part of the assessment process (e.g. conversational style that starts with the person)
5. Conduct additional interviews with caregiver/primary support and utilize multiple sources including records to verify information and coding prior to finalizing the assessment
6. Arrange formal interpreter services as needed
7. Complete all assessments utilizing the provided software
8. Code the assessment accurately based on training
9. Document all case activity as per program requirements
10. Meet or exceed established monthly productivity standards
11. All assessments must meet quality standards (e.g. assessment fully completed, time frames of assessment maintained, etc.)
12. Meet all standards established for this position as outlined in the corresponding annual performance criteria and bonus template for this position
13. Perform other duties as may be assigned by Management.
SKILLS
Strong analytical skills; detail and solution oriented; ability to work independently; excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills; and ability to use spreadsheet or database software; Proficient computer skills including, but not limited to, the ability to use the following on a daily basis: Web-based applications, Email, Microsoft Word
EXPERIENCE
Minimum of one year working with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities in a full-time position; experience in adapting interviewing skills to elicit information from individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities, their families, caregivers and staff, and various clinicians. Experience working with adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities and their families and knowledge of the supports and services available.
REQUIRED EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree in an approved human service discipline
SCHEDULING
Must be willing and able to accommodate varied schedules and hours; some evening and weekend hours are required.
TRAINING
Maximus offers a 4-week paid training program focused on conducting CAS assessments. For the first three weeks, contractors participate in remote learning from home. In the final week, they complete mock assessments both in person and virtually. After successfully passing these mock assessments, contractors are considered ready to begin fieldwork.

TRAVEL
Must be willing and able to travel within the assigned region. Assignments will not exceed approximately 1.5 to 2 hours from your home location. Assessors located outside the NYC five boroughs must have a reliable vehicle, along with a valid driver's license and active insurance.
