Job Description
General Purpose of Job: The Clinical Informatics Analyst Advanced supports the design, build, and maintenance of clinical informatics solutions that align with clinical workflows, institutional standards, and regulatory requirements across University of Michigan Health. This role focuses on operational execution; requirements gathering, basic system configuration, data quality support, documentation, and testing all under the guidance of senior informatics leadership. In addition, the Clinical Informatics Analyst Advanced Systems Integrations) assists with data integration and analytics efforts that connect clinical, genomic, and research/clinical trial data sources with electronic health records (EHR) and clinical trial management systems (CTMS). The role contributes to interoperability initiatives, supports development of clinical trial matching tools and related databases, and helps ensure reliable movement and use of data across platforms to advance patient care and research.
Essential Duties
- Integration & Mapping:
- Build and expand databases within the current Division of Genetics and Genomics environment.
- Create and operationally deploy code that automates clinical trial matching and secure data exchange.
- Map source data from Regional Epic EHRs and pathologist-vetted VCF files to MatchMiner and OnCore.
- Transform and map data for report generation and direct EMR upload.
- Extract clinical data from OnCore and other CTMS platforms.
- Map clinical data to FHIR standards for interoperability.
- Analysis and Problem Solving:
- Conduct root cause analysis for recurring issues, implementing long-term solutions.
- Analyze complex clinical, financial, and operational datasets.
- Develop sophisticated reports, dashboards, and visualizations for clinical and administrative decision-making.
- Ensure compliance with healthcare data standards and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with senior clinical leadership to support resource planning and informatics strategies.
- Lead initiatives to improve clinical data integrity, performance, and security.
Job Requirements

* Must be proficient in clinical informatics * Experience with data mapping, transformation, and automation for EMR integration * Familiarity with healthcare compliance and standards in clinical data management. |
| Education |
* Required: High school diploma and a minimum of 7 years of clinical informatics experience OR Associates degree computer science, IT or related field and a minimum of 5 years of clinical informatics experience OR Bachelor's degree in computer science, IT or related field and a minimum of 3 year of clinical informatics experience |
| Specialized Knowledge and Skills |
* Proficient knowledge of clinical informatics, data governance, and workflow optimization. * Programming skills (Python, R, or equivalent) for bioinformatics/data integration. * Preferred Skills & Abilities o Experience with REST APIs and YAML based specifications. o Understanding of genomic data (e.g., VCF, HGVS nomenclature) preferred. o Knowledge of clinical workflows and informatics integration with Epic and CTMS (OnCore, OpenClinica, etc.) preferred. o Experience with clinical trial matching tools (e.g., MatchMiner) and FHIR standards preferred. |
