HOW YOU WILL IMPACT OUR MISSION The Desktop Engineer supports San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance mission and vision of saving species worldwide by uniting our expertise in animal care and conservation science with our dedication to inspiring passion for nature and leading the fight against extinction. Under direction, the Desktop Engineer develops, maintains, upgrades and optimizes endpoint devices for security, reliability and performance. The Desktop Engineer also leverages tools to manage and automate endpoints, provides ongoing technical assistance for user problem resolution and maintains existing hardware and software. This position reports to the Desktop Services Manager.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Configuration and installation of Windows and Mac operating system and application specific software and Computer Peripherals
- Troubleshooting/problem diagnosis of endpoint devices/systems including software, operating systems, application software and peripherals
- Support and manage endpoint management tools such as Intune and jamF
- Provide on-site, off-site and remote end user support (Including hands on, phone, email etc.)
- Develop and maintain standard operating system images
- Assists with the disposal of electronic waste material
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR JOB EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in the support of endpoint/server environment required
EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Information Technology or related degree preferred
- A+ Certification required
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
- Provide in-depth troubleshooting and issue resolution for desktop applications and hardware (PC, Mac, iPhones, iPads, printers, and more).
- Ability to explain technical issues to non-technical staff
- Tools, equipment, and materials used in personal computer repair and maintenance
- Familiarity with LAN/WAN, server concepts, and troubleshooting hardware/software issues.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive, client-focused mindset.
- Analyze and provide solutions for personal computer hardware and software problems
- Install and configure personal computer hardware, software, and peripheral equipment
- Communicate effectively both verbal and written
- Work independently and as a member of a team in a diverse environment
- Ability to manage multiple priorities under deadlines with a strong sense of accountability
- Work with the teams to analyze infrastructure and identify areas for improvement, enhancements, and standardization.
- Ability to travel to other San Diego locations
- Lift up to 25 pounds on a routine basis (desktops, monitors, printers, etc.).
