Takes a leadership role in performing moderately to highly complex accounting activities focusing on the revenue cycle and bad debts, supporting GAAP and regulatory financial reporting, providing audit support for rates, performing account analyses and related research and reconciliations. Will also lead the cross functional collaboration efforts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual close procedures for revenue, including preparation of revenue-related journal entries, account analyses, reconciliations, and reports
  • Support preparation of parent and stand-alone GAAP financial statements.
  • Support rate case filing and regulatory reporting - PUC, EIA and AGA.
  • Provide external, internal and regulatory audit support.
  • Maintain control documentation for revenue related processes and participate in enhancements of accounting processes and internal controls.
  • Coordinate efforts between operations management (meters), billing, rates, industrial sales group and IT for process improvements and data integrity.
  • Leads ad-hoc projects related to revenue accounting and reporting
  • Interact with internal customers and business groups on ad hoc initiatives.
  • Support the Accounting managers and other staff members as required and needed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Solid knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems with strong computer skills (Excel, PowerPoint, and SAP ERP software).
  • Good problem assessment and problem solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, communications (oral and written) teaming, and organizational skills.
  • Strong customer focus and ability to lead others.
  • Exceptional ability to analyze financial data and prepare accounting reports.
  • Ability to lead and manage several cross-functional projects in a quality and timely manner.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience in general accounting, 10 years preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to perform complex accounting functions and projects
  • Knowledge of natural gas utility operations.
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local relevant regulations.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, or economics required.
  • Previous billing cycle experience his highly desirable

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Perform sedentary work- exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
  • See, hear, talk, and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity.
  • Operate standard office equipment.
