The Opportunity with McKinstry

McKinstry is seeking a Senior Production Planner to join our Offsite Manufacturing team in Spokane, WA. This role is responsible for driving advanced production planning strategies that ensure manufacturing operations run efficiently, predictably, and at scale. The Senior Production Planner plays a critical role in aligning production schedules with business objectives, customer demand, and long-term capacity planning.

As a senior member of the team, you will partner cross-functionally with operations, supply chain, engineering, and procurement to optimize manufacturing performance. You will lead the development and execution of complex production schedules, proactively identify constraints, and implement data-driven solutions to improve throughput, resource utilization, and delivery reliability.

This role requires a high level of analytical capability, strategic thinking, and leadership presence. You will serve as a key point of contact for production planning, facilitating alignment across stakeholders, leading planning reviews, and driving continuous improvement initiatives within the production planning function.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, own, and optimize master production schedules that align with customer demand, capacity constraints, and business priorities across multiple value streams.

  • Lead cross-functional planning efforts to ensure materials, labor, and equipment are effectively aligned to meet production targets.

  • Analyze production data, capacity models, and demand forecasts to identify bottlenecks and implement scalable solutions.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on schedule adherence, production efficiency, and throughput optimization.

  • Partner with operations leadership to proactively mitigate risks, resolve escalations, and improve overall manufacturing performance.

  • Establish and maintain advanced planning tools, dashboards, and visual management systems to enhance transparency and decision-making.

  • Lead weekly and monthly production planning meetings, providing insights, risk assessments, and actionable recommendations to leadership.

  • Oversee inventory planning strategies, including material forecasting, safety stock levels, and supplier coordination to ensure continuity of supply.

  • Collaborate with procurement and logistics to improve supplier performance and material flow.

  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and operational standards while driving accountability across teams.

  • Mentor and support junior planners or coordinators as the planning function evolves.

What You Need to Succeed at McKinstry

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in production planning, scheduling, or supply chain within a manufacturing or construction-related environment.

  • Demonstrated experience managing complex production schedules across multiple product lines or value streams.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate data into actionable insights and business decisions.

  • Proven ability to influence and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders, including senior leadership.

  • Advanced proficiency with production planning, ERP/MRP systems, and data analysis tools.

  • Experience implementing or supporting Lean Manufacturing, continuous improvement, or operational excellence initiatives.

  • Strong communication skills with experience leading meetings, presenting insights, and driving alignment.

  • High level of organization, attention to detail, and ability to anticipate constraints and plan proactively.

  • Certification in supply chain management (e.g., APICS/CPIM), Lean, or related discipline preferred.

  • Experience with offsite manufacturing, modular construction, or complex project-based production environments strongly preferred.

The pay range for this position is $75,870 - $128,900 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. Base pay information is based on market location.
