Job Summary
The Milling Machine Machinist 2 is responsible for setting up and operating manual and CNC milling machines, including 3-axis and 5-axis HAAS equipment, to manufacture, modify, and repair precision aerospace and production components. This role performs complex machining operations involving compound angles, contours, helical and spiral milling, boring, serrating, spline cutting, and keyway cutting while maintaining exact tolerances. The position requires interpreting blueprints and engineering specifications, planning machining sequences, selecting tooling and machine attachments, and ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards. The ideal candidate will have experience in aerospace or manufacturing environments, strong CNC programming knowledge, and the ability to work independently within highly regulated production environments.

Job Responsibilities



  • Set up and operate manual, universal, horizontal, vertical, and CNC milling machines to perform precision machining operations
  • Program and operate 3-axis and 5-axis CNC milling machines with simultaneous movement capabilities
  • Perform machining operations including contouring, compound angle cutting, boring, spiral milling, gear cutting, spline cutting, serrating, and keyway cutting
  • Select, mount, align, and adjust machine attachments, fixtures, and tooling for production requirements
  • Plan machining sequences, determine setup methods, and calculate feeds, speeds, and depth of cuts
  • Interpret blueprints, sketches, technical drawings, and engineering specifications to ensure accurate production
  • Use precision measuring instruments and machinist hand tools to inspect and verify dimensions and tolerances
  • Fabricate, modify, and repair metal parts, assemblies, and installations for aerospace and manufacturing applications
  • Design and create customized fixtures and tooling as required for machining operations
  • Perform standard shop mathematics and layout procedures including measuring, marking, and scribing materials
  • Monitor product quality and maintain compliance with statistical process control and quality standards
  • Maintain adherence to Foreign Object Debris (FOD) prevention, housekeeping, and clean-as-you-go policies
  • Follow all safety procedures including the use of required personal protective equipment (PPE) and hazardous material handling procedures
  • Collaborate effectively within a team-oriented manufacturing environment


Job Requirements



  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of 2 years of related machining experience in an aerospace, military, or manufacturing environment
  • Experience programming and operating 3-axis and/or 5-axis CNC milling machines with simultaneous movements
  • Experience using Mastercam or related CAM software
  • Knowledge of GD&T and manufacturing design processes
  • Ability to design and build custom fixtures and tooling
  • Experience interpreting technical drawings and engineering documentation
  • Proficiency using precision measuring instruments and machinist hand tools
  • Experience working with materials such as composites, aluminum, titanium, and Inconel preferred
  • Experience using NX or other CAD modeling software preferred
  • Knowledge of ERP/SAP systems preferred
  • Experience working in aerospace rapid prototype or experimental fabrication environments preferred
  • Ability to work independently and within a collaborative team environment
  • Strong attention to detail with innovative and self-motivated work habits
  • Ability to perform physically demanding and repetitive tasks including bending, stooping, kneeling, lifting up to 35 pounds, working overhead, and accessing confined spaces
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment physical examination
  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret clearance and Special Program Access within a reasonable timeframe
  • Active Secret clearance preferred
