Job Description

Summary

Builds, repairs and maintains metal equipment and structures of various sizes. Performs tasks involving design and labor for all types of concrete-related construction projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • 1st Responsibility - Ensuring personal safety and the safety of your team members.
  • Assists supervisors and managers in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Wears appropriate PPE, which may include fall protection, respiratory protection, hearing protection, foot, hand, head and eye protection.
  • Uses proper lifting and ergo techniques.
  • Reads work orders or receives oral instructions to determine work assignments, material or equipment.
  • Works under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods. Follows detailed job specific instructions to ensure processes and procedures are followed in an efficient and productive manner.
  • Operated metal fabrication equipment in compliance with proper operating procedures using MIG, TIG, ARC welding processes.
  • Cuts and joins metal components using various tools including TIG welder, MIG welder, plasma cutter, chop saw oxyacetylene torch, and hand grinder.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints or welding process specifications.
  • Produces a variety of parts to specifications from shop drawings.
  • Determines proper set up of tooling and jigs.
  • Positions, aligns, fits, and welds parts to form complete units or subunits, following blueprints and layout specifications, and using jigs, welding torches and tools.
  • Fabricates components for engineering specification using engineering drawings, measuring devices, calculators, etc.
  • Designs and creates holding jigs that aid in the proper fabrication of parts to met basic production requirements.
  • Builds, erects, and aligns forms for various concrete structures and foundations.
  • Estimates concrete quantities, appropriate mixes of sand and cement if hand mixed.
  • Prepares sites by grading and building and forms to shape structures.
  • Aligns forms for structures patches voids, and uses saws to cut expansion joints.
  • Performs duties of cutting and placing reinforcing wire mesh, and brushing in accordance with specifications.
  • Records production, repair, and machine maintenance information.
  • Works with the team to reduce / eliminate bottlenecks to reach team goals.
  • Works on continuous improvement projects.
  • Records problems that occur and analyzes root cause and recommends actions to be taken.
  • Proactively promotes The McWane Way Principles.
Qualifications

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

  • High school diploma/GED required.
  • Completion of an Associate Degree in Welding Program/Vocational School in a similar technical program required; four years' experience as a Certified Welder may be substituted for degree requirement.
  • Two additional years experience in metal fabrication required.
  • Must verbally and hands-on test to demonstrate proficiency in fabrication, structural and pipe welding, and industrial or general contracting concrete work required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add and subtract and to multiply and divide. Uses mathematics to solve problems.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
