Design and Construction Management Design & Construction Management oversees the planning, design, and delivery of construction and renovation projects that support campus facilities. The department manages large-scale capital projects and works with campus partners, consultants, and contractors to deliver functional, high-performance spaces. Recent and ongoing projects include the Innovation Lab, Welcome Center, Protoplex, and Bioplex.
Job Description
This position exists to be the owner's representative on construction projects on campus. This position is the first point of contact between the university and construction contractors. Key Responsibilities:
- Review contractor's compliance to the bid documents by visiting the construction site and making observations on progress
- Enforce the general conditions of the contract for construction by making observations in the field, reviewing certified payroll applications, change order requests, schedules, insurance, bonds, and other information that the contractor is required to provide
- Review the contractor or construction manager's progress schedule and compare it to actual results in field from observations; Take necessary measures to remedy a project falling behind by utilizing the provisions allowable in the construction contract
- Conduct pre-construction meetings with the contractor to set expectations for the remainder of the contract
- Manage the project budget once a project has transferred from design to construction by reviewing change orders, assigning expense lines to budget lines, approving or denying expenses, and thorough understanding the project required deliverables
- Maintain a positive relationship with the university's primary stakeholder group or groups and with the primary client; Keep the client informed of any significant changes and also update the client on progress of the project
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
- Foreman or Superintendent Experience.
- Broad construction experience in building construction types and construction methods.
- Experience with multiple construction delivery methods.
Anticipated Hiring Range
The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $69,098-$102,024 annually. Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
