What you'll do:

The Painter position is responsible for the painting of truck cabs, bodies, and parts for the company's specialty/utility/fleet vehicles.

  • Responsible for painting full sized vehicles with very minimal defects
  • Perform preventive maintenance on paint equipment
  • Identify and spot repair paint defects in accordance with appearance specification
  • Verify cleaning chemical concentrations
  • Pre-treat and prep cabs and parts for paint
  • Spray base coat and clear coat
  • Mix tints following a formula to match paint codes
  • Maintain accurate documentation of paint codes
  • Coordinate material movement within the paint area
  • Load and unload parts on racking or carts per process documentation
  • Learn and retain skills and practices needed to complete duties in assigned area
  • Read and follow detailed operator instructions, installation drawings, blueprints, etcetera, as required by a particular area
  • Self-check work and inspect prior processes
  • Use basic hand, electric, cordless, and pneumatic tools, as required
  • Meet production goals
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area
  • Initiate process improvements
  • Support 5S in work area
  • Communicate with manufacturing and other cross-functional teams (engineering, materials, purchasing, sales, etcetera) to resolve issues
  • Solve complex problems with minimal assistance
  • Know various customer vehicles and trucks
  • Ability to mask multiple color units & train FAP Paint
  • Undercoat
  • Paint Touch Up
  • Wheel Alignment

What you need to be successful:
  • HS Diploma or GED required (Automotive paint certification or vocational school certificate preferred)
  • Minimum 1-2 years Automotive paint experience
  • Excellent attendance
  • Positive attitude
  • Strong and consistent attention to detail
  • Self-motivated with the ability to stay on task
  • Team oriented
  • Basic computer skills are required
  • No critical shortcomings on last performance review
  • Demonstrated understanding of Paint materials and cleaning chemicals
  • Vocational training for automotive finishing, preferred

Able to:

  • Tolerate very high heat temperatures, high dust, and exposure to chemicals
  • Work overtime on short notice

Be willing to:

  • Wear PPE respirators for extended amount of time
  • Improve self / area / company (including pursuing additional training, if needed)
  • Develop a working knowledge of company's systems (example: AS/400)
