About This Role

The Department of Computer Science at Kansas State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Cybersecurity. We seek outstanding candidates with fundamental/foundational cybersecurity research expertise applied to research areas such as energy, formal methods, cyberphysical systems, and artificial intelligence (Al). The successful candidate will pursue a cybersecurity-focused research agenda, will contribute to cybersecurity education, establish internal and external research collaborations, and attract external funding for a self-sustaining research program.

Worksite Description

This position is On-site.

All employees must reside in the United States when they begin working to comply with state law. K-State is unable to provide remote or hybrid work opportunities for residents of the state of Idaho.


What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:



  • Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field (completed by the start date).
  • Demonstrated research expertise in cybersecurity.
  • Strong publication record in high-quality venues.
  • Commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.


The degree requirement is necessary for accreditation purposes and to ensure candidates possess the specialized knowledge, skills, and abilities that can only be attained through a formal educational program at this level.

Preferred Qualifications:



  • Background in formal methods.
  • Experience with hardware and/or software forensics, and/or reverse engineering, and/or malware analysis.
  • Experience with cybersecurity in energy systems, smart grids, and/or critical infrastructure.
  • Experience at the intersection of cybersecurity and machine learning and/or Al.
  • Experience collaborating with industry, government agencies, or national laboratories.
  • Evidence of successful grant writing and securing research funding.

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship.
