GENERAL SUMMARY: Accountable for clinical practice educational initiatives to guide the transition of knowledge of various care providers into perioperative clinical practice. Acts as an educational and clinical resource to facilitate the ongoing clinical systems and quality/process improvement activities within perioperative PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS: *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values. *Assesses Perioperative staff's educational needs and competencies based upon observation, data collection, analysis and new regulatory requirements; designs and provides comprehensive orientation and educational programs that support integration and success in the perioperative environment. *Develops course content based upon evidence based practice and human error theory for Perioperative orientation and staff development; provides clinical practice education related to Perioperative care using optimal educational methodologies. *Models appropriate adult learning methodologies to promote individual or group mastery of competencies related to perioperative care. *Serves as clinical expert and educational resource for new and existing staff on perioperative nursing. *Determines and monitors Perioperative quality improvement activities; determines methods to coordinate and communicate performance/process improvement to Perioperative staff. *Monitors regulatory and accreditation standards for changes in requirements that impact surgery and sterile processing. *Determines methods to assess and promote Perioperative care initiatives that support improvement and safety practices in the operating rooms and support areas. *Develops/revises Perioperative procedures. *Consults with OB and procedural areas to promote and assure standard/best practice in Perioperative nursing and assists in facilitating education for these areas. *Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to develop integrated systems that optimize patient care delivery in a cost effective and efficient manner. *Provides consultation to Perioperative staff related to practice. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from a School of Nursing with current Registered Nurse licensure from the State of Nebraska or approved compact state of residence as defined by the Nebraska Nurse Practice Act. Must provide evidence of certification and/or instruction for practice area as required by State or Federal standards/regulations. Masters in Nursing or Education required. Minimum of three (3) years recent perioperative practice experience required. Experience in education preferred. OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS: Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required.
