| Job Description Summary: |
The Department of Exercise and Nutrition Science is seeking a candidate to work as a full time Laboratory Research Assistant in the laboratory of Dr. Matthew Barberio.
Projects will focus on maternal, infant, and child nutrition, with an emphasis on investigating effects of sugar and sweetener exposure on maternal and infant health. This position will be responsible for conducting in-person a procedures and collecting demographic, anthropometric, dietary, biological and behavioral data; entering, managing, organizing, and analyzing study data; contributing to the preparation of academic manuscripts, posters, and presentations; and administrative duties including assisting with expense reports, manuscript submissions, presentations and grant applications. A commitment to working in multidisciplinary teams and developing and maintaining positive relationships with study participants, co-workers, and collaborators is essential.
The primary responsibility of this role will be overseeing a laboratory related responsibilities related to the SweetPea Clinical Trial. The ideal candidate will have prior experience working in a molecular laboratory setting, with human subjects in a clinical research setting, exceptional organizational skills, outstanding interpersonal skills, strong oral and written communication skills, and an interest in human nutrition, physiology, health behavior, medicine, and/or public health. Using a certain degree of creativity and latitude, the core responsibilities of this position include making detailed observations, analyzing data, and interpreting results. This position compiles results and prepares technical reports and documentation of outcomes. This role is familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures in laboratory sciences. Working under general supervision, this position typically reports to a Principal Investigator.
Additional Duties:
- Assisting in preparing literature reviews
- Supporting ethical review board (IRB) applications and approvals
- Assisting in data and biospecimen collection form human subjects
- Managing data collection forms and standard operating procedures
- Reviewing and assessing data quality
- Assisting with writing reports for partners and funders.
- Additional research administration tasks may include:
- Organizing meetings with research partners
- Supporting project logistics related to travel and procurement
Performs other duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position. |
| Minimum Qualifications: |
Qualified candidates will hold a Master's degree and 1 year of experience in a related discipline. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. |
