JOB TITLE: Apprentice Line Specialist (Early Third Year )


Location: North Fort Myers, FL / Will travel to remote locations as required


Work Hours: M-F 7:00am - 3:30pm


Candidate must be in early third year of certified line worker apprenticeship training program and/or equivalent work experience.

Position Summary: This position is for the purpose of training employees to become linemen/women. The training involves on-the-job training (OJT), correspondence courses (after work hours/self-paced), and performance of various tasks under the direction/approval of linemen. The type of tasks that would be learned is construction and maintenance of overhead and underground distribution and transmission facilities.


Position Responsibilities:



  • To attain full qualification as a lineman/woman in one/two years.
  • Construct/maintain facilities in a cost-effective manner while complying with applicable codes and standards and ensuring that they remain reliable and efficient.
  • Respond to after-hour work needs, assist in emergency repair, and restore service in a timely manner after outages.
  • Perform duties safely and in accordance with the Accident Prevention Rules Manual.
  • Account for all construction materials (issues, returns, salvage, and truck stock).
  • Must live within 45-minute commute from regular work site
  • Maintain effective working relationships with employees and customers at all levels within LCEC. Ensure smooth operations, productive communications and effective understanding during all interpersonal contacts. Provide current and accurate information to all requesters, courteously and in a timely manner.


Required Qualifications:



  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be in late second year/early third year of a certified line worker apprenticeship training program and/or equivalent work experience.
  • Valid Florida commercial driver's license class A.

Physical Demands and Work Environment: The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.   • Physical Demands: Must be able to lift 50 pounds frequently and 100 pounds occasionally, climb in/out of bucket trucks, squeeze tools with approximately 80 pounds of force, climb poles, drive large vehicles and heavy equipment, work from the basket of a bucket truck while wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), work at night and extended hours.
  • Work Environment: Mostly outside in inclement weather (extreme heat, thunderstorm, and occasional cool temperatures).


STORM DUTY REQUIREMENTS.... Responding to storms may be considered a condition of employment: LCEC provides critical services to our community during an emergency. Employees may be required to participate in the response/recovery activities related to emergencies/disasters to maintain service to our LCEC members. Employees are required to work in their normal job duties or other assigned activities. Proper compensation will be made in accordance with the company's guidelines and procedures.
