Summary

The Spire is seeking a Corrosion Control Technician to work in our Alabama operations. This position will assist the Corrosion Control Supervisor to cathodically protect all metallic underground infrastructure components, maintain compliance with DOT 49 CFR part 192, maintain a safe environment for employees and public. This is a safety sensitive position that provides scientific challenges and requires initiative.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Analyze leak repair data received from operations.Troubleshoot and resolve as needed.
  • Complete Cathodic Protection Annual Surveys and document findings.
  • Understand required protection criterion listed in DOT 49 CFR part 192 Appendix D.
  • Maintain and operate remote monitoring/interruption devices in rectifiers.
  • Maintain ground beds, which may be deep, semi-deep, surface lateral or distributive.
  • Analyze data collected from above duties to determine compliance with DOT regulations.
  • Document all information in correct system(s) of record for compliance and maintenance purposes.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Periodically Supervise Company and contract crews on cathodic protection installation and maintenance jobs.

Required Education (certifications, licenses)

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent, required.
  • Vocational training in electricity/electronics or secondary education in applied sciences is preferred.

Required knowledge, skill and abilities

  • Must be proficient in the operation of Multimeters, locating equipment, hand tools, power tools and Lock out/ Tag out safety procedures.
  • Must be proficient with office computer programs such as excel, word, SAP etc.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must be able to hear and differentiate audible signals from locating equipment.
  • Must be able to resolve issues/conflicts with outside parties without becoming adversarial.
  • Must be able to help outside of assigned area when needed.
  • Cathodic protection or electrical/electronic experience preferred.

Physical demands, environment and schedule

  • Normal Work Environment - Work is normally performed in field conditions (all weather).
  • Must be able to walk long distances (1-2 miles) carrying equipment weighing up to 20 pounds.
  • Must be able to traverse rough terrain on foot.
  • Normal work week is 40 hours.
  • Overtime and/or travel are required infrequently.
