The Staff or Senior Neurodiagnostic Technologist (ND Tech), under direction from the Supervisor and according to lab protocols, will participate as an integral member of the Neurodiagnostic Services department by performing routine, specialized and complex Neurodiagnostic procedures to include: EEGs, ambulatory studies, Phase I Video EEG in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU), Long Term (LTM), live patient EEG monitoring, multi-modality Evoked Potentials (BAEP, VEP, SEP), Phase II invasive recordings, ECoGs, cortical mapping, Wada testing and other specialized procedures in both inpatient and outpatient settings, including nursing floors, intensive care units, operating rooms and other specialized locations. The ND Tech will ensure electrode and technical integrity and quality of all Neurodiagnostic procedures performed. Accurate results provide the physician with valuable information to diagnose and treat neurological conditions/disorders. The ND Tech may participate in departmental and organizational programs, including performance improvement activities, in-services, and staff development activities. This position is a night shift position working ten (10) hour days. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS Does not supervise staff. Reports to Neurodiagnostic Supervisors. DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Required qualifications for Sr. level:
- At least five (5) years of experience as an EEG Technologist or equivalent in a level 4 EMU
- At least five years as an experience in an acute care hospital setting.
- Demonstrated competency in performing complex EEG's as well as in one or modalities such as EP, LTM, EMU etc. Demonstrated proficiency in Phase II invasive EEG, ECoG.
- Proficient in Neurodiagnostic software applications
- Knowledge and practice of electrical safety relevant to Neurodiagnostic equipment.
- Knowledge and understanding of medical terminology.
- Experience with computerized and diagnostic medical equipment.
- High school graduate or GED.
- Graduate from an accredited training program in Neurodiagnostics or a combination of education and experience.
- This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
- Proficient in computer skills including Word, Excel, and online communication.
- Possession of good interpersonal, time management, problem solving and self-initiation skills.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skill in dealing with patients, family, caregivers, physicians, and clinical staff.
- Demonstrates ability to be an independent, motivated self-starter
- Ability to work variable shifts and locations

- Experience with computerized Neurodiagnostic equipment
- Prior experience working in an academic medical center's Epilepsy Monitoring Unit
- Proficient with EMRs (EPIC), Knowledge of basic medical terminology
Licenses/Certifications:
- Required for Staff level: Must obtain ABRET R. EEG T. credential within two years
- Required for Sr. level: Registered ABRET EEG Technologist (R. EEG T.) and Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association
