II Salary: $66,504 - $94,036 (Annually/ Non-Exempt Position) Posting Date: May 20, 2026 Benefits: CalPERS Retirement, Supplemental Insurance, 457 Retirement Plan, Flex Spending Account, Employer Contribution to Medical Benefits Filing Deadline: June 12, 2026 JOB SUMMARY Under general direction, an Accountant II performs professional accounting duties to support financial functions and processes; analyzes and reconciles accounting records for compliance with federal and State laws, regulations, and requirements; reconciles the general ledger and various bank records; prepares federally-compliant cost/price analysis, assists with grants accounting reimbursement packages, assists with financial audits and compliance reporting and performs related work as required. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Supports the month end close process. Performs journal entry preparation and posting, monthly analyses of general ledger accounts, account reconciliations, variance analyses, and the preparation of the monthly board reports as well as other duties assigned to complete the close. Monitors compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and organizational procedures. Assists and prepares computerized reports/spreadsheets based on local, state, or federal requirements. Cross trains and assists with accounts payable, accounts receivable, inventory, fixed assets, grant support and payroll functions as assigned. Prepares grant reimbursement packages and reporting in compliance with federal, State, and local requirements. Prepares cost/price analysis for procurement projects to comply with federal regulations. Assists with annual financial audits, State Controllers Financial Transactions reports, National Transit Database reporting, State and federal audits by providing supporting documentation; conducts research and organizes various files as needed to complete orderly audits and compliance reporting. Performs routine clerical and accounting tasks, including data entry and record maintenance. Supports finance department with financial system automation projects, updating processes and documenting procedures as assigned. Observes and complies with all District and mandated safety and security rules, regulations, and protocols. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & ABILITY Knowledge of managerial accounting and financial practices; knowledge of state and federal payroll laws and CalPERS processes, procedures and reporting protocols; experience in accounting, financial and governmental reporting and recordkeeping requirements including GAAP, FASB, and GASB principles; ability to comply with District and mandated safety rules, regulations, and protocols; techniques for effectively dealing with the public, vendors, contractors, and staff; proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, working knowledge of ERP systems preferably Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, ability to use modern office equipment relevant to work performed; ability to analyze financial data and draw sound conclusions; ability to independently organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines, and follow-up on assignments; use tact, initiative, prudence within general policy and procedural guidelines; ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, using appropriate English grammar and syntax; ability to establish, maintain, and foster positive and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS Equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field, and two (2) years of professional level experience in accounting and finance.
