Job Description:

As Manager of Merchandising Planning at The GIANT Company, you will lead the strategy, governance, and execution of enterprise level commercial and promotional planning. This role is responsible for shaping how the organization plans, communicates, and delivers promotional activity to drive sales growth, increase market share, and consistently meet the needs of our customers.

You will provide leadership across cross functional teams including Category, Marketing, Pricing, Category Merchandising, and Finance to ensure alignment to a unified commercial strategy. This role owns the end to end commercial planning framework, including annual planning, weekly execution, performance analytics, and enterprise communications, positioning the function as a critical driver of business performance.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and execution of enterprise commercial and promotional strategies that drive sales, market share growth, and customer engagement
  • Own the annual commercial planning and negotiation launch, including creation of enterprise tools, frameworks, and timelines that enable category teams to effectively plan with vendor partners
  • Provide strategic leadership for the weekly period planning process, ensuring alignment of all commercial materials, priorities, and execution across cross functional partners
  • Establish and govern the enterprise commercial planning calendar, ensuring appropriate sequencing, integration, and execution of all key initiatives
  • Serve as the primary owner of all commercial planning communications, setting clear direction on timelines, deliverables, and expectations across the organization
  • Lead promotional analytics across all commercial events, delivering insights, performance reviews, and recommendations to senior leadership to inform business decisions and improve outcomes
  • Monitor and evaluate performance against financial targets, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities to optimize promotional effectiveness and return on investment
  • Partner with senior leaders across Category, Marketing, Pricing, and Finance to align promotional tactics, investments, and strategic priorities
  • Guide development and evolution of tools, reporting, and processes that improve visibility, consistency, and effectiveness of commercial planning
  • Lead cross functional coordination of major promotional events, programs, and initiatives to ensure seamless execution and customer impact
  • Act as a key strategic advisor to leadership on commercial planning opportunities, risks, and industry trends
  • Drive continuous improvement of commercial planning processes, elevating capabilities and ensuring alignment with enterprise objectives

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Deep expertise in retail merchandising, promotional planning, and commercial strategy
  • Advanced analytical capability with ability to translate complex data into actionable insights and strategic recommendations
  • Proven ability to lead large scale, cross functional initiatives and influence senior leadership
  • Strong financial acumen, including experience managing budgets, forecasting performance, and evaluating promotional ROI
  • Exceptional communication skills with ability to drive clarity and alignment across diverse stakeholder groups
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced environment
  • Demonstrated ability to build, lead, and influence high performing teams and cross functional partnerships
  • Proficiency with planning systems, reporting tools, and data visualization platforms

Minimum Requirements:

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing, Finance, or related field

Experience: 10+ years of experience in merchandising, category management, pricing, or related retail functions, including demonstrated leadership of enterprise level planning processes and cross functional teams
