A reasonable estimate for this position is $55,000 Application Window Open date: May 27, 2026 Next review date: Monday, Jun 15, 2026 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Final date: Monday, Jun 15, 2026 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Position description Junior Specialist Position Description in the Chiu Lab NATURE AND PURPOSE Overview: We aim to hire a Junior Specialist, Step 1 to conduct research in insect circadian and seasonal biology. The Junior Specialist will contribute to a number of projects related to understanding the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying the regulation of insect circadian and seasonal rhythms. Projects will examine the mechanisms by which insects sense external time cues, such as photoperiod and temperature, and metabolic signals, including timing of food consumption and quantity/quality of food, to orchestrate diurnal and seasonal changes in physiology and behavior. Primary duties will involve executing lab experiments, maintaining colonies of insects, lab maintenance, managing data, and summarizing and presenting results. The incumbent must be motivated, detail-oriented, and organized and able to conduct work independently in a professional environment, including working with lab members and scientific collaborators. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DESIGNATED AREAS OF EXPERTISE Research (90%): * Junior specialist must be continuously and effectively engaged in research activity of scholarly quality and significance in the area of chronobiology. This position requires a minimum of a Bachelor of Science or equivalent degree (Biology, Entomology, Ecology, or similar field). NOTE: The junior specialist rank is an entry level position; accordingly, it is inappropriate to hire applicants with advanced degrees in this field, or those with BS degrees and three years' relevant work experience.
